To me, it looked like Koech forced himself into a tight hole on the inside which sandwiched Mills between Kerr and Koech. There was some light contact that threw Mills off balance and slowed him down. Then his back leg got tangled up with Myers while he was already staggering.
Mills is having a great season, but I doubt it is possible to run well at Worlds with a broken wrist. Awful luck.
That is 100% on Mills. He was closer to lane 1B as the pack started to swallow him up. Myers moved up in lane 1A and Mills' back-kick was wide of Myers at that point. You can't squeeze over to the rail when your hips are out position like that. He effed up Myers' race and the kid was on the verge of doing something great.
Why are Mills and Giles notoriously involved in falls? Field size too big? They’re too aggressive/low spatial awareness? At this point whenever I see one of them in a race I figure there’s good odds of a fall.
What I find odd is that nobody mentions the fact that he almost had a fight with the 2nd pacemaker right at the start and the pacemaker literally had to hold him off. I've never seen that happen before. And here Mayhem Mills is stating - "the plan was to jump on the pacer". He literally did that.

He was fading. The whole group was starting to swamp him and he got defensive about his position. The fall however looked inadvertent, with just some very light contact with Myers. It was so unexpected though that only the guys in front of him weren't actually impacted by the tripping.

Fighting and being belligerent is on brand for Mills

It's two months away, no? Unless it's a very bad fracture, it should be pretty well healed by then. I don't know anything about the details of the injury but it seems unlikely that a fractured wrist would seriously impact training (if the wrist is in a cast, it could upset his arm swing a little) and it should be pretty well behind him by Worlds.

Not a fan of mills at all but cmon.. a pacemaker’s job is to help the field. Yea they need to get to the front, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of getting in the way of other runners and making them slow down. If the 2nd pacemaker has to run in lane 2 for part of the first turn to stay out of the way of someone who wants to run 12 seconds for the first 100m to get on the pacer then thats what they should do. That’s why they start on the outside.

Totally agree.
We know for a fact that between 1200m and 1300m Mills decided to move from basically the rail to the outisde of lane 1 - presumably to try and make it difficult for Kerr to pass him. How do we know this? Firstly from the race footage where it is clear Mills is right on the rail as they head towards 1200m, and then we know he has moved out because Koech passes him on the inside we no impedance at all - in fact Mills basically ends up getting passed on the inside and outside with 230m to run.
He goes backwards momentarily with Myers minding his own business right on the rail starting to make his final 200 push, and then tries to reaccelerate coming off the curve and the get back to the rail. Quite simply he runs across the front of Myers trying to do so, and it doesn't take much. You can't do that pal. He's just so unconsciously unawares in these 1500m races in particular which is why he has a shocking number of falls in them.
It's really hard because yes, it is an accident - he clearly doesn't mean to do these things, but it's kind of something that has to be fixed/rectified right?
The Aussie 1500m record is 3.29.41 - Myers could have broken that yesterday and probably made himself a really nice bonus. What if in that fall both of them had broken their wrists or fractured their elbows in the fall and that made them miss the World Champs? You can't be that careless.
That's a good comment, doesn't blame anyone or cry about it. Pretty much "I fell over, oh well"
Probably not going to blame anyone when it's your fault yeah. "I fell over, oh well"? - I wonder if he would be so apathetic if he had broken something and had to miss the rest of the season and the world champs. "Sorry Cam I just cost you 50k for that Aussie record you probably were going to break" "Oh well"

He did break something, but he was just as blasé about that as he was the whole thing. Not a fan of drama is Mills.
