Tow truck and motorcycle had flashing lights and it is broad daylight. It doesn't matter if it is a "bike lane" or not, riders still need to pay attention. There could be a disabled cyclist in the bike lane changing his tube after blowing a tire, or a road killed deer lying in the lane, or a huge pothole - all kinds of dangerous situations can be present and a cyclist only has seconds to react at best.
I'd be interested if they're going to do a crash investigation like they do for vehicles
You could get the bikers speed off his device, measure the distance from the downhill curve to the motorcycle and see if there was even enough time to come to a full stop avoid crashing in the bike line.
If I was a tow truck driver and had the forethought of a cyclist, id probably put the car in neutral and put it further down the lane away from the bend in the road.
Anyways bikers fault in my opinion. He also stated he wasnt paying attention.
Definitely the rider's fault. That also looks like a crazy road to be riding on, despite the large shoulder. I know city folk don't have a lot of options since car culture sucks, but you gotta watch out for yourself. Having to dip into a lane of fast moving traffic to avoid a broke down car is iffy-AF.

I also noticed the car filming him with their dash cam could have possibly hit him if he went into the car lane at his current speed.

Too bad they didn’t.
The arrogance of many bikers in CA is something to behold. They run stop signs and lights, hold up traffic, assume they have some sort of moral authority over people in cars, etc. It’s almost hilarious.

And car drivers are better? Using cellphone while driving, going above speed limit, cali stop. Studies have shown motorist break the law more than cyclist

I live off this road and have ridden it many times. Despite being a 55 mph road, there’s typically plenty of space and group rides often rip down La Costa 2 a breast. this dudes just a moron for pretending he’s Remco and not looking up

Hopefully the car drivers stop procreating then too.
100% guarantee cyclist is a triathlete that was using an app and doing his indoor workout outside. He was focusing on his metrics and trying to complete an interval. Busy staring at the screen instead of looking at the road.
Busting the myth of the "scofflaw cyclist" Danish Road Directorate studies reveal that while 66% of motorists routinely break road traffic laws only 5% of cyclists do so. Law breaking by cyclists is higher where there is no c...
A friend was doing the same thing on a road outside of Raleigh N.C. He crashed into a homeless dude pushing his shopping cart. Both survived and later I asked my friend if he got a full suite of germ warfare shots after taking out the bum. He didn't laugh. I did.
I only have one slightly busy road that I ever run on because it is excellent for hill training. The speed limit is 30 mph and there are a few speed bumps. But this doesn't stop idiots from driving 50 mph between speed bumps and hugging the curves like they are in an F1 race. When hugging these curves, they often drive in the bike lane.
The lanes are wide. I have a bike line to run on. There is a sidewalk in terrible condition as well.
If a car gets anywhere near me, I jump up on the sidewalk until the car passes.
I honestly believe that cyclists who ride on roads like this are morons. Trusting drivers not to hit you from behind is absurd. And to just totally space out and plow into a cop? Darwinism at its finest.
