At Stumptown Twilight. Only a 3 woman field and Allie was essentially solo from the gun and still ran the fastest season opener of her life by over 2 seconds (9:35.11). Looking good to get back into the 9:20s again!
Solid result. Seems like she was just doing all this trail stuff and then suddenly USA’s is almost here and by the way she’s in the steeple. Good thing she got this rust buster in prior to nationals

Yeah that’s the same kinda vibe I get. I’ll always root for her cause I’ve followed her journey for so long, but really wish she would just focus and excel at one discipline instead of juggling trails, roads, and track.
I like Allie, but the steeple team is going to be hard to make unless you’re running sub-9:15. Even though she’s been injured it seems she needs to focus on more racing to improve her speed.

Putting aside his other issues, choosing Roche as her coach was a huge mistake. He was always trying to move her over to the trails and ultras but she is best at steeple.
She needs to do some damn intervals faster than 29s per 200m... what does she think she's doing?
she needs to brush 27 mid-low.
this is my very unqualified opinion, but I can't help but see her and her husband and automatically think of them as slow-twitch plodders.
Mr. And Mrs. Ostrander, please start watching I Am Longevity, training some fast twitch with ladder drills, bounds, bounds up stairs and hillsides, and ABC skips.
For tendon and fascia longevity, use collagen, puerarin (a phytochem found in soy and kudzu which increases GH level), ecdysteroids (found in white mushroom, spinach, quinoa, and Chinese herb cyanotis), and a combination of PEMF, redlight & infrared & heat therapies, and use of agents like delta sleep inducing peptide (from a vetted source, to avoid contamination) for maximizing deep sleep and recovery.

Rust busting should have been MONTHS ago. I know she was injured but… its looking like she’s going be placing lower than last year and she’ll be disappointed and we’ll get some videos about it I guess

I like how she competes in a variety of events, but I wish would move away from AG1 and David Roche. Maybe already she did?

My feeling is the trails stuff is a lower injury risk to turbo charge her aerobic base. But I dont know.
ngl....her steeple form is off and the water was worse. she was basically soloing and was still choppy in approach, and the water jumps.....In a crowded field, she's gonna lose a ton of time.

Because her coach is "an ultra marathoner who can run break 4 at altitude", not a steeplechase coach.
She needs to fire Roche ASAP but she has been brainwashed.
27-yr old (at the time) Annie Rodenfels, whom no one would mistake for a steepler, showed up in the steeplechase at last year’s Olympic Trials. Because of poor technique getting over the barriers, she went out right to the front in order to have a clean unobstructed approach. It was exciting for awhile, but she did eventually fade. Nonetheless, she came away with an amazing time (for her) of 9:22:66.
(The above account is how I remember it—I did check her finishing time—without going back and doing further fact checking.)

Quick fact-checking on TFRRS indicates Rodenfels ran DIII steeple at Centre (never heard of it); her collegiate best was 9:58.83.
Ostrander finished 0.84 seconds ahead of Rodenfels at last year’s Olympic Trials.
Allie’s in a weird financial place in the sport. She’s not quite quick enough to make a living as a pro runner, so she needs to be primarily an influencer to have a solid income. Unfortunately, while the steeple is probably her strongest event, it’s also the least consumable and monetizable to her YouTube audience, since the average recreational runner is obviously not running the steeplechase. If she was at the equivalent ability as a men’s basketball player, she would play in Europe and make a decent living. I wish there was more fandom and support for track and field so that fringe pro runners could get by on running alone, but unfortunately that’s not the case, and we see almost world class steeplers doing gimmicky trail stuff to rake in $55K a year on social media payouts and low level endorsements
