Went out slow, seemed to build confidence throughout the race. Great to see her back but wish it was a little bit earlier as one race before USAs is tough.
Closed in 67 I believe. Definitely in sub 15 shape, probably not ready for 14:50. Probably too close to USAs to gain much fitness now, but it’s a great sign that she’s healthy, and she’s a huge talent. Hopefully she’s able to keep making progress this summer and is back to her old self next year
progress after such a long injury. just good to see her running again in decent fitness.
Yes. Pleasant surprise to see her so close to 15:00.
A couple months back, Ritz mentioned in an interview Alicia had suffered "the worst injury imaginable for a distance runner." Believe she tore muscle & tendon completely from bone.
Have to criticize Dathan for having her overtrain to the extent that happened.
However, have to give credit to Dathan for bringing Alicia back cautiously, yet with enough intensity to get her in 15-flat shape. Delicate balancing act; worked well so far.
67-point last lap. Pretty much on par with Alicia's past races. Mostly a front runner, mostly w/o a kick.
As such, don't expect Alicia to be contending for a Tokyo spot on Aug. 3rd once the gear changes are made over the final 800.
However, can easily envision Monson replicating Valby's race from last year's Trials races: taking the race out hard, dropping all but the legit 14:50 & under competitors, then hoping for the best --- including a big season's best along the way.

Yet again, the coach is blamed for something that was probably out of his control. What her level of training prior to the injury and how did it compare to what she was doing in 2023 when she set her ARs?
Monson made a comeback her junior year in high school to win state. Her competition that year was actually pretty good. The competition she has now is, of course, even better but the point is she has triumphed in the face of adversity previously.
She looked good but this is a long way from her CWR of 14:19. Rooting for her.
This isn't a record.
Ramzi says it’s the “Clean World Record.” I wonder if Shelby Houlihan’s 14:23.92 was the “clean WR” until it wasn’t. Before that, I wonder if Liliya Shobukhova’s 14:23.75 was the “clean WR” before it wasn’t.

Is it clear this was an overuse injury? she had torn her ACL in the same knee in high school, according to Ritz's IG post today.
Yes it is. We have age group records, national records..... No reason to not have the CWR as well. And it belongs to Monson. Great athlete.
The fastest she ever ran in college was 15:31 yet you think she ran 14:19 clean? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it clear this was an overuse injury?
No, her meniscus injury was NOT an overuse injury, despite what some clueless people on here keep falsely claiming.
