The more I think about it, the more absolutely incredible this is. Bekele world and OG golds span 6 years (2003 worlds - 2009 worlds). Geb's golds also span 6 years (1993 worlds - 1999 worlds). El G is 7 years (1997 worlds - 2004 OGs).
18 years between global titles is one of the more underrated accomplishments in track and field.

Geb also won the 2000 Olympic 10,000m so his span is 7 years. But yes, a span of 18 years in incredible. Funny that all of Kipchoge's outdoor global championship appearances were in the 5000m or the marathon --- he never contested the 10,000m at a major championship.

Bekele ran 2s off the WR at age 37 in marathon.
ya, i said many years ago that bekele could run 159 at least in the marathon at peak..
and same for Kip, he's been quite past his prime, in his "prime" years at marathon.
I'm surprised how far Lagat was from this benchmark, considering his well-known longevity. His first and last outdoor medals were 1500m Olympic bronze in 2000 and 5000m WC silver in 2011. So even relaxing the standard from gold (2x at the 2009 WCs, disregarding indoors) to any medal, 11 years.
Indoors he also had several golds and his last medal was in 2014, a silver in the 3000m.
