But did his early celebration wreck a fast time or was it rude to the other competitors in this low level meet? He still ran PR by .01 but definitely would have run faster by running straight through the line.
If he can jog in a 3:53 in a low key meet, that won't be his PR for long. Not to mention he has run much faster in the 1500m. However, it would be really sad if he had gotten seriously hurt stumbling there on the line.
Celebrating like that when you’re a huge underdog? Sure, go nuts. But, celebrating like that when anything but a win would be a huge disappointment? I don’t know, man.
I like the guy and can appreciate the showmanship, but it’s getting harder and harder to root for him.
I was there on the night. The crowd absolutely loved it.
On a warm evening at the end of a great slate of racing seeing the International athletes put in a show is exactly what they came to see. Lughaigh Mallon breaking 4 was a nice addition he was the 153rd Irishman to do it.
What’s wrong with celebrating a win and good performance? Times are not everything. Time fetishism is a recent development in the history of foot races.
For a favorite in a low-key meet, it was over the top and a bit douchey, but track in general could use a few more antagonists and different personalities. At least he's interesting. Hope his ankle is okay - a sprain in that situation would have been a little funny.
It would have been well-deserved if he had fallen when he tripped after crossing the line. I was hoping to see a replay of Bill Gramatica, the kicker who tore his ACL when over-celebrating a field goal.
Kid has heart man, don't listen to the spiritual boomers. The stumble was goofy, but I'm looking forward to somebody like him making your favorite runners sit at home during worlds in the coming years.

It reminded me of the time Engels did the same celebration and lost lol.

I am a total fan.
Diadora shoes will get a try from me because they signed him
I thought the same thing! Marc and Marco are long lost brothers. Hearing Marco talk about his upbringing and the issues he had were eerily similar to Marc's. Both run/ran the best with a "chip" on their shoulder. Both are fantastic runners, but in some instances need(ed) to pull back a bit. Marc (aka the D.O.C.- a nick name he gave himself), has some pretty kickA$$ credentials that Marco has yet to achieve. Marc D. won various national titles, including Footlocker, NCAA's, USA Champs, Oly Games Team, and World Champs Team both in X-C and Track. Will Marco L. duplicate Marc D.? Who knows, but he does burn hot with emotion, which is great, just so long as he keeps it in check. I thought the Cork Mile was a bit much, not crazy overboard, but a bit too flashy for an international rookie. He definitely left a 3:51-3:52 time out on the track had he finished strong and not paraded down the last 100m. Nonetheless, a win is win, and he certainly has gas left in the tank after a long collegiate season. If he stays fit, he will make some noise at USA's next month. I'm not sure he can last through the rounds, if he does, he will have a tough time in the Final where a low 3:30 will be needed to make the team. I'm a fan and am pulling for him.

Why are you a fan of a kid? I suspected you are not a grown man. So you’re a kid too?
