CONFIRMED - Brosnan committed multiple NCAA violations at UCLA

I used to like Vin. But that time has passed.

I think an apology is owed to the Duke and UVA coaches who were slandered for reporting it, when they were actually 100% correct. The NCAA found proof.

If something looks too good to be true, it usually is. Brosnan has been sketchy since the start. High school governing bodies have no teeth. NCAA is different. What worked at the high school level ultimately brought him down.

It was incredibly obvious. UCLA is a very good school and I can see how it'd be attractive to runners, especially those from California, but having multiple people commit within one day of entering the portal just is too obvious to ignore. If he was at Stanford it could appear more legit (I could see someone immediately committing there if offered) but having 3+ people immediately commit to UCLA just doesn't add up without tampering

Am I wrong in thinking that if in July 2025, 3 recruits signs within a day or two of entering the portal, almost no one notices or cares?

A football player is playing WAY beyond his current NIL deal and the "level" of the team he is on (say, Iowa, for example) and gets picked up by Alabama? Sure. That could happen fast. But that might also be a result of tampering.

But a female cross country runner that is at an academically elite university with a strong cross country progam, who enters the portal and announces UCLA as the choice school immediately? Where was the time for recruitment, for her to vet the options, etc.?

I'll conclude by saying that this is not hindsight. When it happened people on this board were screaming "TAMPERING" instantly.

I just read the report, and honestly, it’s frustrating. Brosnan didn’t tamper with anything; he just spoke to a parent from Newbury Park who had a kid at another school he’s known for years. This whole thing feels stupid and dumb. I wasted 45 minutes reading it only to find out there’s nothing meaningful or important here.

You are wrong. When someone as fast as Mia Barnett enters the portal she will get messages from over 100 schools. It takes time to talk to several coaches, visit the schools, receive scholarship offers, learn about NIL deals at each school, etc.

You should learn more about NCAA rules. Imagine if you were a star athlete in the NCAA, not in the transfer portal, would you want opposing college coaches DMing your mom on instagram to try getting you to transfer?

He also contacted the parents during a period of time in which the transfer portal was closed and it was impermissible to have communications with potential transfers.

Not cooperating with the NCAA investigation is really bad too. In his interview with LetsRun, he lied:

"Brosnan said the NCAA investigated the claims and he cooperated with the investigation and even turned over his phone. “Nothing was found. I’m 100% confident in that … There were no violations,” said Brosnan."

SB seems as if he has poor character. He needs to be banned from the sport.

Because he protected his program? Trying to make sense of your position. Should he have just let SB get away with tampering?

Why would anyone believe anything this guy has ever said?

Sam McDonnell - he coached her at Newbury for 4 years and Im sure was close with her family. she went to Alabama but the moment UCLA hired Brosnan she transferred. ironically, she's not that great of a runner. I can understand getting fired for poaching a Young or Sahlman, but McDonnel? poor guy.
