Institution:
University of California, Los Angeles
Date:
July 08, 2025
Violation Summary:
Tampering violations occurred in the UCLA cross country and track
and field programs when former assistant coach Sean Brosnan had
impermissible contacts with the parents of two student-athletes who were
enrolled at other NCAA schools at the time and who had not yet entered
the Transfer Portal. An additional violation occurred when Brosnan
failed to cooperate with the investigation.
The panel processed violations for the school through a separate
negotiated resolution process. The committee approved the negotiated
resolution, bifurcating the case and allowing the school to immediately
begin serving penalties while awaiting the committee’s final decision on
Brosnan’s remaining contested portion of the case.
Penalty Summary:
One year of probation; $5,000 financial penalty; vacation of team
and individual records; and a one-year show-cause order for Brosnan. If
employed by an NCAA member school during that time, he will be
prohibited from communicating by phone or in person with prospects for a
period of six months.
