Why do NBC broadcasts insist on telling a predetermined “story” rather than let the race itself tell the story. The NBC camera shots throughout the race are mostly close-ups of “the story.” In the last 300 meters of the Bowerman Mile, the NBC announcers were laser focused on Yared (“the story”) and didn’t even mention (or even notice?) Laros flying up the rail until he was meters from the finish line. Compare that with the international feed, which uses long shots so you can get a good sense of how far apart the runners are. Tim Hutchings mentioned that Laros was kicking before he entered the final straight.
