Very cool to see some of the Flagstaff-based guys come together for this! (TT was in Cottonwood, AZ, at 3000 feet)
I had Wightman at 2:14.3 (running start). That's just a little off his 2:13.88 pb from August 2022, just after he won Worlds. He and Kessler look fit and ready to go this weekend. Wightman's last 200 was 24-mid. Very quick.
Brazier got dropped the last 200. Curious how much of that was him not being strong enough right now vs. not wanting to go too deep in the well in practice.

2:14 isn't that good. He ran faster before in worse condition
This is so cool. World 800m champ, world 1500m champ, world mile champ, world indoor 1500m silver medalist, all doing a time trial. Also I think Adidas, Nike, New Balance, Nike sponsors. Hopefully with Swoosh allowing Nike athletes to go train in Flag or Provo whenever they want, we see more stuff like this. I was really hoping for it when Hocker said SOVA was going up to Park City and I was like omg Fisher and Rooks are there.
Great video. Also an example of when people try to guess runners running longer distances. I’m sure a lot of people would say a 1.43 guy would cruise through in 1.49. But he got dropped as soon as they passed 800.
Kessler should go for the 1k AR this season, he can definitely do it in the right race. Its about time we that old Rick Wohlhuter record go down.
Agreed he seems like the most obvious candidate to get it and should be in shape to do it based on this time trial. I know there was a bike sort of pacing but he was the lead guy for most of it.
Kinda got the time right, but geez, I couldn't have guessed it's Wightman being on top!(thought that would be Kessler) Great to know he's healthy and ready to roll again!
Only lead change happens in the "final 200" - Kessler probably with a 25.0, Wightman with a 24.6 to close.
A sub 2.15.0 km with a close in under 25 seconds is exceptional no matter what the environment. Kessler breaking or right on 2.15.0 with a 25.0 close is also superb. Not much else to add here except re Brazier.
He is exactly 5m behind at 800m so I put that at 1.50.6. Obviously we can't see where he finishes but I think given what we know about how he's training now, he not trying to drop the hammer in workouts really at all. I would guess he held his pace in the final deuce and came in between 2.18.0 and 2.18.3

Amazing video! I'm so happy that we get to commonly see stuff like this.
1. Wightman looks great, far better than I expected. I always felt like his world championship in 2022 was just the tip of the spear - I feel like he had a lot more to offer, and was really only held back by injuries.
2. Considering how far we are from worlds, They probably ran 2:14-2:15 off of primarily longer, slower stuff, right? Just my guess based on my rudimentary knowledge of distance periodization. That should translate to a great mile time. I will guess 3:45 for Kessler and Wightman on Saturday.
3. I was a little surprised to see Brazier dropped, but I guess he's only really been training since January. Seeing how different his form was from the other distance guys was cool - much more powerful, driven strides.

I would like to see Kessler get it. However, Hoey is certainly as capable if not more capable right now than Kessler.
Based on how training goes there is some periodization but they definitely touch on races paces even in early season or base phase. It could be hill repeats or sprints for example but at this point in the year season they definitely have been running more specific race pace workouts as worlds aren't that far off as this supposedly was 1 week from pre classic.
