Disappointing to see him leave Coach Mo, who helped develop him, but totally understandable from a fiscal standpoint. He’ll probably make more and get nicer stuff at Oregon, than he would as a pro thrower.
Face it people, discus is a ridiculous event and nobody cares who wins at it, unless they win Olympic gold medals and score propaganda for their country.
Oregon gains 0 PR from it, trust me. Its own students will never know who this is. They didn't know about Rupp when he was there. They like football and basketball
Choker. Horrible signing. Throws great when there is no audience. Failed at NCAAs three times; can't throw when the pressure is on.
You would agree there is more pressure and bigger audiences at the Olympics, Worlds and European championships than NCAAs, correct? I think an Olympic Record (which was then beaten) and his consistent medal record whilst being the youngest top discus thrower on the circuit says enough.

He is a Thrower in Track and Field, You can win World and Olympic Medals and have The American Record and you might only get an Apparel deal if that
And Alekna is a Foreigner which usually hurts ( Meaning Not being American Hurts - Marketability) $200k is a lot considering that, but Deals are often only agreed upon if The Athlete sign a Non Disclosure Agreement, So I am not sure how some Anonymous poster on Lets Run go that Information, and why would he put it on a Messageboard and risk Alekna losing his Deal?
He's the world record holder, but has never won a significant gold medal and he can't even win NCAAs. As of now, he is the discus equivalent of Fernando Mamede.
Yeah, he is good at throwing the discus. Hopefully, some day he will do it when it really matters.
