Not going to argue on the first two, but at least for George Mills, he had Covid during the Olympics. Add to that, he tripped and fell in the 5k on the home straight. That "21st place" is wildly out of context. He finished 3rd in the Bowerman mile behind Jakob and Nuguse in 2023, and ran a 12:58 5k debut in Boston in 2024. Its not out of this world to believe that his progression is natural. Definite? No. But possible? yes.

I’ve thought Josh Kerrs trajectory was a little sus, but then again, I think I remember reading he lost like 10 lbs and got crazy lean and dialed in his diet, which could all explain his results. George Mills really seems to have a normal progression. He’s pretty subpar, starts training at altitude, PRs get faster, has some bad results, trains harder, better results, and keeps getting faster. I think his progression has been fairly linear. The jump from a 12:58->12:46 5k is a little strange but they were 14 months apart and indoor vs outdoor.

It appears the shoes are worth ~2s/km but you also have to consider also the possibility that training and racing with with the new shoes (for a few seasons at least) is a requirement to max out the technology. The tech supports the training, the training makes the shoes look even better.

Anyone with a North Africa name or from a North African country should be banned. El G was the biggest doper of all time and they don’t stop to this day.

Even if 21st isn't representative of Mills' 5k potential, it doesn't change the fact that his progression is beyond belief. He was never a factor in the 1500 at the European level, let alone on the world stage, before today. Sure, he was 3rd at Pre, but for all intents and purposes he wasn't even in the same race as Jakob and Yared.

A 3:30.95 guy (who's only gone under 3:32 a few times) just ran 3:28.36 out of nowhere. If I didn't know any better I'd say the track is short or they started at the wrong spot because the times are completely unbelievable. Whatever hit the 800 last year seems to have reached the 1500.

You left out the East Africans, like Kenya for instance with 400 suspensions. Get rid of them.

Doesn't make sense. The track is obviously fast, good conditions, wavelight, and new training. I wonder if Nike figured something out with this track for the Kipyegon sub 4 attempt.

Crazy how performances across all levels in the sport suddenly improved at distances between 1,500 and the marathon after certain footwear was released in 2020 / 2022. Weird how relative improvements were not observed in the same way for sprints, field, and frankly many other sports during that time.

Well last year in August, a 3:30.59 guy (who'd only run under 3:32 a few times) ran a 3:27.65 out of nowhere.

I don’t think you realize how significant a 2.59 second improvement is at this level. 3:30.95 is around #350 on the all time performance list. 3:28.36 is #30.
