Their B team could have three sub-3:29 guys by the end of the season.

I don't think he is speedy enough to medal in the 1500, no. Getting gapped in the last 200 by two guys that don't include the Olympic podium or Jakob isn't exactly changing my mind. Good 1500m time trialer, though. Do you think he'll lose to Neil Gourley again at British Champs?

OK, you wouldn't get out of bed if you weren't going to win an Olympic medal, but for a lot of pro athletes, reaching Olympic or World finals is an incredible achievement too.

He's ran 12:46, 3:32, and now 3:28 in the space of 8 days.

BTW, you made that claim to support your insinuation that he's doping (because he started off as an 800m runner but "isn't good enough for the 1500m").

I don't think he's doping. I do think you are hypocritical in assuming his training partners (Attaoui) and runners with less impressive progressions ARE 100% dopinh, while acting like you are 100% sure he's clean as a whistle.

Yes I think he will struggle to medal in the 1500m of those events if the best guys run. For me, his best championship event is the 5,000. I don't see the closing speed to get a medal in the 1500. Take doping out of it, when he runs the 1500 he looks like Mo Katir out there (goes to the front, pushes, not much of an extra gear). Yes Katir got a medal in Eugene, but after the event leveled up in 2023 he was no longer a factor in the 1500 the same way due to his lack of top-end speed to close races.

This has gotta be the first time in a while that someone's broken 3:29 without Jakob in the race. I mean even people breaking 3:30 without him there is rare enough.

I was going to say that myself. At least one or two will get popped, and the others will likely fade as the World Championships get closer and they have to throttle back due to the mandatory pre-championship testing in Kenya.

I think Tim and Habz broke 3:30 a couple weeks ago, but before that it had been years. Can’t imagine when the last time someone broke 3:29 without Jakob was. Was Tim’s first 3:28 the 2020 Monaco one where Jakob ran 3:28 for the first time? Before that, probably the Kiprop era, no?

Nah, Kenya has a lot of talent and they've started to utilize double threshold and bicarb loading for competitions.

It's becoming even more and more clear that there is some undetectable drug or performance enhancer out there that is benefitting these mid pack runners. It all started with Nuguse running that 3:43 high mile. Now, everyone is running 3:27 and 1:41. Sport is a joke. Have fun watching this circus clown show.

Is going to be the year of crazy 1500m times the same way 2024 was the year of crazy 800m times? Are we going to see four guys break 3:27? After this race that doesn't seem so far-fetched anymore.

Distance running is dirtier than sprints

I think its just the usual combo of EPO,steroids,bicarb,fancy shoes,and perhaps blood doping for some. Nothing new under the sun,although the shoes have perhaps given all the athletes a 3 second advantage. Maybe 1.5 seconds seconds in the 800. Will any of them get busted? probably not.
