Gault said that it's normal for meets to make payments a couple months later. have to wait on drug tests and other things. so hopefully the money comes through. i guess it's not time to panic yet.
I'm curious to see how this shakes out. One other detail: on this week's ep of the Coffee Club podcast Olli Hoare said (after hearing it from Yared Nuguse) that at least one investor pulled out, which was part of why LA was cancelled.
One thing I’ve never seen is whether Michael Johnson is getting paid for this or does he have his own money at risk. I’m getting more and more the impression none of his own money is in this.
I would assume the athletes will be paid if GST wishes to have a second season. They will have zero participants if they bring a 2026 season around and haven’t paid out athletes from 2025.
It's actually a nod to tennis, not baseball (i.e., the 4 Grand Slams of tennis). But thanks for letting everyone know you're an uncultured American!
Tennis gets the term "grand slam" from baseball. What, did you think that was a coincidence?
Both answers are incorrect, but boy- the two of you sure aren't lacking confidence!
Bridge (whist, to be more accurate) coined the term a good hundred years before MLB or Tennis. The MLB even cites the card game as the original source of the term.
I heard on Youtube from a Track and Field Podcaster, After the 3rd Grand Slam Meet, that the Best thing about Grand Slam Track is The Athletes All Got paid after each meet on Time, and Athletes say they are very Happy about being Paid in full Immediately after the Meet.
"Grand slam" (in sports) referred to winning golf's four majors before it referred to tennis.
Alas, Grand Slam Track ended up having only three meets instead of four so perhaps should change to Triple Crown Track.
If we're playing the who used it first game Triple crown is a win over the other three teams in the "Home Nations" of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in Rugby Union.

Imagine how great the fields could have been if they had offered $1 million to the winners instead of $100,000. It's all the same to GST if they don't plan to pay.

Post collegiate coach here, it sometimes takes up to a year to pay out athletes. It sucks but that's how it is.
