But in the slower heat of a 5000, she'll have to repeatedly move back from the rail anyway with all the runners she's lapping, so that would seem to cancel out the other benefit, and I doubt that's what it is.
Yes, last year Elyse Wilmes won the 800 from the 2nd fastest heat. But that was a case of her having a big PR -- her not being in the fastest heat was consistent with her previous PR.
