I'm curious to see how Beamish goes in the steeple.

Ruppert wins it.

I'm still half expecting he'll scratch. 8:13 two days ago was a good result and he doesn't seem overly convinced his ankle will hold up. I hope he runs. He should be pushing closer to 8 flat with his talent.

Spoiler alert:
He goes straight to the back for 2600m, lets himself become almost out of contact, then has a wild and frantic sprint to get 6th.

GDS handily took care of that field in the 1500m. 60s last lap FTW in 4:02 flat.
Schlachtenhaufen 5th
4.04,70
Ruppert wins
Bebendorf 2nd
Beamish 7th
8.17,77
Stands are full - stadium holds 13,000.
Can't wait for Nordas.

Imagine if GST had decided to hold a meet in Europe, just to create some initial buzz.

He got runner-up in his 3rd race in 5 days. Pretty encouraging as it was the first race where he actually looked competitive and didn't just sandbag from the back. Not the greatest conditions for running fast due to strong winds despite good pacemaking by Zan Rudolf (if a little conservative). Komen fought hard to hold off Nordas on the backstretch with the wind at their back. Both guys definitely paid for it in the last 100 with Ermias Girma, who didn't get involved in that, taking the win in 3:33-mid with a 54 last lap. He doesn't have the qualifier yet, but in good position to get in on points now. Or he can probably run the time on a slightly less windy day.
This meet feels almost more notable for the flops:
Sam Gilman ran 13:53, Coscoran uncompetitive 3:36.7 in the 1500, Sinta Vissa 4:10, Beamish 8:17 I guess explainable with the short rest,
Looking forward to the Nordas excuse train rolling along in 2025.

Told you. Almost exactly what happened.

This was the first race all season he looked better than a European mid-packer to be fair. Still, the days of contending for DL wins and podiums at the global level seem pretty far off.
Beamish never looked in it from the start. I obviously know much less about his situation than his coach but I really can't understand why a guy with a history of injury is running 2 steeples in 3 days. Even in the 8:13 he said in a post race interview his legs felt heavy and dead.
