It's amazing how excited Duplantis gets after each 1cm WR; it has to be all for show. He appears to clear the bar by like 6"; he probably has done over 6'40 in practice.

He hasn't jumped over like 6.06 in practice, and before that he used to max out at 5.90 in practice. He needs the big meet adrenaline to get a WR
I know that PV is a goofy event and belongs in the field portion of T&F (which on a running website, people care less about) but I don't think people understand how dominant this guy is. Nobody is even close to this guy even on a bad day.
Is he milking the 1cm at a time WR? Absolutely but it's also the way the vertical jumps work.
He is a generational athlete (maybe even bigger, centuarian?) and we'll never see anyone like him soon.
That is 15 cm higher than the #2 all-time performer when including only outdoor non-altitude marks. (Bubka 6.14 in 1992…his 6.15 was indoors and his 6.14 outdoors was at altitude). #3 on that list is KC Lightfoot (6.07 in 2023).
Mondo really is in a completely different class than anyone in the history of the event.
Gets $100k every time he breaks the record so naturally he breaks it a quarter inch or so at a time. Bubka got a bonus too, that's why he broke it so many times.

No kidding. It's amazing how the ignorant conventional wisdom gets regurgitated and upvoted. Same caliber of thought as the geniuses who didn't think there was any difference between 300 and 400 hurdles.
This one was an interesting clearance by Duplantis. Instead of getting huge foot clearance he essentially bent himself over the bar with perfect execution but no margin anywhere.
That leads me to believe he is a lot closer to maximum than observers prefer. I've never believed he'll reach 6.40+
He still runs; therefore it is in our wheelhouse. Anyone who runs on a track surface with great speed and who runs as part of their training belongs here
