See title. Curious if anyone knows the fewest number of athletes it has taken to win a D1 NCAA track team title. If you had a couple of superstars do well in multiple events I could see it being possible to win it all with as few as 3-4 athletes but curious if that has happened.

I would assume one of the Arkansas indoor teams of the late 80's- Haley, Falcon, Conley, etc?

Love these type of stories. I remember a 15 years ago or so ago a girl winning the PA State meet by herself. Thought that was totally badass.

i am going with 1965 or 1966 Kansas or Missouri. They both won with 14 pts🤣I really hope it was one dude doubling…
Want to say yeah those Arkansas teams won with like 5 dudes scoring. LSu/GMU were similiar score but they had relay points

Ayden Owens did it in PA a few years ago, won the AAA team title for North Allegheny by himself. 110h, 300h, and the jumps.
Andrew Rock did it as well, in Wisconsin in 2000.

Not quite. Bishop Shanahan scored 32 as did NA, but Owens only scored 28 himself (1st in both hurdles, 2nd in LJ). They got 4 points from a 3200 runner.

Pretty improbable. They would need to sweep the 5K 1-2 and then their Steeple guy would need to win. That gets them 46 points.
You almost always need 50+ points to win unless a lot of teams split points (like last year)
USC, Arkansas, Auburn etc would need to split a lot

In 2000 Stanford won with just 6 mid-d/distance guys putting up an impressive 72 points. Stember, Jennings, Riley, Hauser, Hauser, Balkman.

Just thinking about it, I think you'd need at least 4-5 people. The talent level is so high, it's really difficult to pull a double, much less more than that. And to win, you need 50+ points at least.
The most common doubles are what, 100/200, LJ/TJ, maybe some throws?
If you had two elite 100/200 sprinters, an elite jumper, you could pretty much pair them with anyone competent and probably gets points in the relay too.

VIn Lananna's Stanford men won it (I recall) with five athletes in 2000. Gabe Jennings and Michael Stember in the 800/1500, a couple of 5/10 runners, and a pole vaulter.

In 2022 Mia Cochran won the 800, 1600, and 3200 and won the meet for Moon Area.

Somewhat related: I might be remembering this incorrectly, but I think that Leroy Burrell (Penn Wood High School) won the indoor track team title on his own back in the 1980s.

2002 LSU scored 64 with 8 athletes scoring. Walter Davis (10 LJ, 10 TJ, 2.5 4x1), Claston Bernard (10 dec), Bennie Brazell (8 400h, 2.5 4x1, 1.5 4x4), Robert Parham (2.5 4x1, 3 200), Pete Coley (6 400, 2.5 4x1, 1.5 4x4), Marlon Greensword (1.5 4x4), Lueroy Colquhuon (1.5 4x4), Javier Nieto (1 HT).
