Someone's probably already started a post on this, but can we honestly call Fisher is a lock for 5k right now? Cause after him dropping out of Philly and Nico/Blanks' performance today, I personally cannot confidently say that he's a lock.
Grant, Nico and Graham have all run under 12:50 this year. The next fastest is 12:57 by Cooper Teare (who got smoked today and hung on Grant’s coat tails in the late grand slams) and Hocker who Grant out kicked at 3k.
No. Heaven forfend, but Grant, like any runner, can become ill or injured, or not qualify for other reasons. To me, "lock" implies 100%. Nobody achieves that surety.

Well are Nico and Blanks doubling back too? I really don’t like the mechanics of the 4-day Trials meet. These 3 are far and away are best 3 at 5,000 and I feel like we’ll end up with only 1-2 of them running the 5,000. For Nico and Blanks I think they are substantially better at 5,000 than 10,000 too. I see a fresh Wolfe, Teare and maybe even Nur comes around by then and has a real chance.

Idk if they are far and away the three best in a championship 5000. There's a guy who beat both of them in the NCAA championship last year and beat Graham in the trials (Nico didn't run the 5). If the Wolfe man is healthy (hug if), it would take a hell of a pace to keep him out of the top 3

Wolfe is hurt and doesn’t have the standard. Nur hasn’t raced in forever
5k comes down to Fisher, Young, Blanks, Hocker, Teare. 3 of those 5 are your team

How could anyone confidently say that Grant is a lock? He scratched from the Philly 3k because of a hamstring issue. For all we know, he hasn’t been training since then. With Nico, Blanks, Nur, Strand, Hocker, Gilman, Wolfe (?), Kincaid, and others capable of sub-13 in the field, there is little room for error.
If anything, I’d consider Nico more of a lock than Grant right now. There is just too much of a question mark about Grant’s health.

There are no locks in this sport, but I would say the guy that has two Oly medals and two WRs in the past few months is probably as close to a lock as you can get...as amazing as Nico was today let's not forget Grant ran even faster indoors with the last 2k+ completely solo. If there was only one spot, I'd be more concerned, but he doesn't have to beat Nico, or even Graham - just a Cooper Teare that got 13th place yesterday (in a solid race for him!) and a Cole Hocker that couldn't even out-kick Fisher at half the distance.

Young and Blanks are both equally good at 10000m and it’s likely Young is currently capable of setting another AR at the distance. Just about every 5/10 runner has PRs that match up to the two times plus a minute conversion. The difference in pace is only 10 seconds per mile so it requires the same skill set for both distances. That’s why there have been double wins at championships and guys simultaneously holding both WRs.

I disagree, and also want to shout out Sam Gilman as an upset contender.
On Blanks, yes he led some of that 10,000 but I think he is leagues better at 5000 than Kipkurui/Samuel/Wildschuut in my eyes. And those guys easily beat him in the Ten. For Nico, I see him as a possible medalist in the 5,000 whereas I’d be wary in the 10.000 as I think Barega, Aregawi, Fisher, Ebenyo, Kejelcha all stack up quite well against him,
