Suprisingly not. He decides to go for a different foreign legion. When the program said they were going to become “distance only”, I correctly assumed they were going to bring people to help Evans Kurui out. Here’s one, I wouldn’t be suprised if there are more that appear out of thin air
They most likely still won’t make it to NCAA’s as a team though lmao

a 29 year old sophomore. might he be the first NCAA T&F athlete to get paid? wonder if there will be a bidding war.
Paid? If he does get paid, can he give some of it back to the Texas Tech coaches as I imagine they feel like they were sold a bill of goods.
The guy was a bust.
Imagine being a 59 minute half marathon guy and entering the NCAA at age 28 and then somehow not recording a finish at NCAAs in a single event - xc (DNF), indoors (DNQ) or outdoors (DNQ).

you realize that every NCAA T&F Athlete on an NIL is getting paid, right?
I agree he super underperformed. But don’t feel bad for Tech. They’ve been going around at meets openly offering athletes at other schools to transfer, so they’ve done this to others. I’m sure he was just a means to a title for them and imagine have a sub 60 half talent and he gets worse under you?
This guy has been an absolute dud so far. Only notable results are 2nd at Big 12s and 1st at Mountain region last fall. Then skipped indoors and bombed out of the west region.
Would not be surprised if this is just one of those guys that doesn't pan out long term.

I hope all of these coaches get what is coming to them. Some amount of regulation for this silliness is coming, and every fraudulent coach who is unable to develop talent should be on alert.

I wonder if he was doing something back home to run 59 for that half that he stopped doing when he got to the ncaa 🤔
You know for all the flack this guy gets...at least he doesn't lie about his age like some of his countrymen have done. It takes guts to confront the world as someone who defies the standard.

The NCAA doesn't mean much to them, it's just a training stop where they get a little money with room and board for a year or two. They don't care as much as an American kid who grew up dreaming of running in college. I think this is why so few of the fast PR imports rarely convert into winning championships. They really just don't have the same mindset that the NCAA title is a life defining moment, it's not that important to them.

I meant to say, "...why so few fast PR imports convert into winning..."
