And height is different in sprints than longer races - an 'ideal' 1500 body for males is probably like Kiprop: 6'2, incredibly skinny, with long legs. Don't know what it'd be for females, though I'd guess about 5'9

Jane is right where she needs to be. The only thing she has ever done in the last half decade (that's how long I've been monitoring her development) that has disappointed me is her 800 time. There's no reason why she can't be around 159 if she spent 1 month training for that specifically.
Everything else about her is right on schedule. But I think she's going to see thst bringing that 800m time down is going to improve her competitiveness in all other distances at the college level.

There’s no way she can run 1:59, and one month of specific training is not to covert slow-twitch muscles into fast-twitch. She would need 56ish 400m speed to run that and I don’t think she has it.

Turning 18 in September senior year makes her on the older side of the grade, although it’s still normal age
I’m sticking with my theory that being tall for distance running isn’t actually a disadvantage. It’s just that tall people find early success sufficient to be recruited by friends and coaches to stick in team sports that reward a little height so their distance talent never gets developed to a high level.

Height is basically incidental in running. Per Astrand has a chapter on scaling in his ex phys textbook that explains all this. That is the same chapter that explains how lighter people(and usually shorter) have an advantage in developing a relative VO2 max compared to larger people.
Jane happens to be tall. Bolt happens to be tall.
There aren't as many 6'4" sprinters out there mostly because there aren't as many 6'4" people as there are 5'11" guys.
In distance running you've had 5 foot nothing guys like Yifter and you've had a 6'7' guy like Jack Bachelor be world class level runners... but most great runners are average height. Again, because there are more people of average height.
And this is why we can't get too excited. she may have already peaked physically. Not saying she will decline like Cain did but how much is left to improve is wait and see.
I made this point before elsewhere, but the outlier factor will always be more dominant with women than men. If women are generally slower than men due to physiology, then those women who happen to have more male-like characteristics, whether bone structure, muscular, or hormonal, will stand out among their sex and produce faster times. Men already generally have these characteristics and accordingly have less variation and greater depth. Sure there are men who are outliers, but the outlier effect will be smaller.
