Not trying to stir up any controversy, but if you had a 5 year, 5 million dollar contract who would you award it to? You cannot choose someone else and you have to pick one based on future potential from today's date.
Before anyone freaks out,
Parker has run:
3k- 8:34 (with about 9:15 for 3200)
5k-14:52
10k- 30:50
Jane has run:
Mile- 4:23 (worth about a 4:02 1500)
2 mile-9:17 (worth about an 8:36 3k)
5k-14:57
Personally I like Jane's speed, but Parker is the more proven runner against better competition. We haven't really seen what Jane would do at a US championship.
But from a performance point of view yeah you go on the person who is 4 years younger and who is showing better speed. Valby also has that injury history.
i don’t track either of their socials to guess who is going to give a bigger ROI.

I don't think women go on missions unless the Mormons are getting progressive
What an unintentionally appropriate question, because one does not exist without the other. I guess we will have to wait and see regarding the rumors pertaining to Valby.
Parker does not seem to be taking her pro career seriously. Maybe she just got more media attention in college compared to now
Ya. I don't think Valby has raced since the Olympics. Seems she has competed a single time, at New Balance indoor grand prix, since then. I know worlds are not until September, but its June now. 6 weeks until USATFs. Is she so much better than everyone else that she's a lock for the team?
Maybe at 10k, but I could see her playing her usual game of leading from the gun - and coming back to a few athletes this year to get left off. Kelati, Schweizer, McClain, and Vestri all may be able to run under Parker's pr in a race that Parker generously rabbits.

I’d guess the male/female split for Mormon missionaries right now is about 2:1. But while guys are told they have a duty to go girls are told it’s cool if they got but it’s not a duty. As a result you see most of male athletes (like Simmons) go on missions while most of the female athletes (like Lexy Halladay Lowry) opt not to go.

I think that thinking isn’t one of your stronger suits. Mormon woman have been going on missions for over 100 years. Last time I saw stats about half of woman who graduate from byu went on missions..
Both have a ton of potential. While Hedengren is running great now, it remains to be seen how she will continue to develop. I like her chances but track history has more “prodigies” that marginally improved or stagnated vs ones that have Hedengren‘s history and kept showing a lot of improvement. I’ve always liked the ones that were not highly touted coming out of high school but gradually developed throughout their collegiate careers.

Agreed. Given the long history of high school phenoms who've plateaued in college and beyond, I generally think the NCAA champion and record-breaker is a safer bet for pro success than the high school champion and record-breaker.
Yes, Valby's injury issues are concerning, but the flip side of that is she's shown tantalizing potential with everything she's been able to achieve on limited mileage. Moreover, she's already proven herself to be a big meet performer at the top level by qualifying for the U.S. Olympic team. I also like the way she showed no fear while racing against the world's best runners in Paris.
Also noteworthy: Hedengren has already been living and training at altitude, so she won't be able to get the boost that Valby can from doing extensive altitude training for the first time.
All that said, I hope both have long successful pro careers.
Valby is going to have a very mediocre career. I’m a fan of hers too. Gun to my head, id bet on her career being full of small but constant injury setbacks. Good enough for us to hold out hope but ultimately falls short. I’m taking Jane
