There is an addition to the article at the top that indicates Kemboi's NCAA 10000m championship was later vacated due to rules infractions, but I could not find any article indicating why.
AUSTIN, Texas ??? Everlyn Kemboi became Utah Valley University's first NCAA Division I National Champion with her win in the 10,000-meter final at the NCAA Championships
The other question then is, does that make Emily venters an NCAA champion, or do they just basically have no winner?
The NCAA traditionally leaves titles vacant rather than promoting second place finishers. For example, the 2013 Louisville men’s basketball team had to vacate their NCAA title, but the Michigan team they defeated in the final was not promoted to national champions.

That sure seems nonsensical, doesn’t it? Someone who was prevented from a legitimate victory by someone else’s cheating doesn’t get the victory they deserved? But, that’s the NCAA for you.

The NCAA champ should never have been there in the first place. Things may have played out different if that was the case. Doesn’t mean 2nd place would have been 1st
Not drugs. She continued to compete regularly since. Ran Falmouth two months after NCAAs, raced in March, May, June, August, October, and November in 2024, and has raced twice in 2025. Clearly no ban.
I'm sure it was some NCAA violation regarding recruiting, academic requirements, etc. Probably discovered that she wasn't eligible to compete in spring 2023 and forced her to vacate the title. She already has a qualifier for USATFs in the 10000m so I'm sure she will be there.
Plenty of athletes continue competing while drug bans are arbitrated. Seems more likely that its something related to academic eligibility, prize money, or something stupid knowing the NCAA though.

You only strip it if the violation occurred before the NCAA title. It is thus highly unlikely it was stripped for drugs as the only violation that take that long typically are ABP violations.
