The big12 is stupid fast right now. Very hard conference to get some distance points in no matter who is coaching.
Time will tell.
I remember some coaches talking about CU back in the day arguing if it was a good job or not. On the surface yes, Boulder. Athletic department wise, no. They kept saying Wetmore was winning despite the athletic department not because of it.
so Cu fires a legendary coach that had the audacity to state that it's better to be a thin runner than a fat one, for a guy that's dating his assistants.
Oh man, yeah, that sounds just like him. I swear, Colorado must have been completely bamboozled when they took him on board. And don't even get me started on his track record. He managed to get one steeple guy into NCAAs, and that's it. No women, nothing. His women's team didnt made the cut for NCAAs in cross country for god knows how long. Quite the charade, if you ask me.

let go prime
This is true. CU doesn’t have the $$ Carlson is used to. Wetmore made it work through instate kids and a few walk ons here and there (he also had some absolute studs don’t get me wrong). But he asked for very little from the administration and kept the train on the tracks for as long as he could. The administration did him no favors.

Any smart coach stays away from pressuring his female athletes to lose weight.

So here's something I never really understood.
Football and basketball make the money. No arguments here.
But what's the true all-in cost for a nationally competitive XC/track program? $5mm? That's what, like 10 or so middle manager administrators for the University that you'd have to layoff. Or add a $10 fee to every undergraduate to cover it. Or find corporate sponsors! I don't know why so many departments thing that it's so difficult.
I don’t think there was much choice. Colorados roster is just not good and I don’t think that was going to change in the 9 months Carlson has been there. The gossip is Colorado administration is reducing their roster numbers and scholarships below the ncaa numbers. They are probably cutting money everywhere to find it for football. Carlson went to Colorado at the worst time possible.

The roster being not that good is misleading. There is a footlocker champ on the roster. A few young studs. It definitely isn’t deep, I will give you that. Carlson also got a few of his transfers this year. Regardless of if the talent is there or not - why are they running their worst performances of the year at conference and regionals? Their best races came in March. That’s just coaching - nothing to do with the talent on the roster.
