Why are race organizers trying to fit ever more runners in 1,500m fields? With all the falls last year, haven't they learnt anything? Perhaps they see falls as part of the spectacle?
i'd love to see a 1500m with 100 guys. the sprinting and jostling down to the first corner would be great for spectators, you wouldnt see any jogging the first lap business.

After those 50 person fields at NCAA conference I think it would be cool to see. Like NCAA XC but on the track
definitely not a record--in the mid-90s it was common for fields of 17-18, plus 2-3 rabbits; i stood on the line with fields of 19-21 in berlin ('94 had 19 counting two rabbits) and monaco ('91 had 21 counting two rabbits)--looks like two of the runners in rabat are rabbits...

Not a good idea, but I wonder if the crowd made Keoch aspire to a faster start and run and lead to his large PR.

The start list for the Washington state class 1A 1600 has 27 names!
When you start with a false premise you have nowhere to go. "Large" fields Ike that are common.
I ran Oslo with 18. Back in the day when it was a tiny 6 lane track.
no clue how this would be downvoted
love been there done it stuff
There's a psychopath that follows me literally 24-7 and uses two sock puppets to downvote me. Its really funny. And pathetic. He needs to up his game. 20 downvotes would really send him over the edge.

Here's how I described it on another thread.
Oslo has a small 6 lane track. The field was perhaps 15-16 runners, maybe more. Respectfully, I stayed out of the mix early staying at the back of the pack, and let the studs do their thing. As the race progressed I gradually moved up. With a lap to go, probably 7th of 8th. Closing in on 1200m I moved outside perhaps 3rd lane and a wall of runners, the best in the world, and found myself itching to "pull the trigger". This didn't go unnoticed by my friends, who realized what I was going to do and were very excited. "Holy Shat" I committed HARD. Then suddenly the bottom dropped out. All of the studs made THEIR move at precisely the same time! Their backs were getting smaller and smaller.
It was terrifying. I think the Norwegian guy and "craw" got me on the final straight. I would love to see a video of that race. LOL!
I had a front row seat, pulling even with him at 1200m then promptly getting my doors blown off during that last 300m! Ovett ran 37.0. I ran 42.0, not bad, but my expectation would have been 39-40.
It was terrifying to see. 1. 3:35.80 Ovett GBR 2. 3:36.00 Scott USA 3. 3:37.90 Plachy CZE 4. 3:38.40 Coghlan IRL 5. 3:39.4 Engelund NOR 6. 3:39.8 Crawford USA 7. 3:40.8 Malley USA

This has been normal in the Diamond League (except Monaco) for a long time
speaking of monaco, and since someone mentioned liking the "been there done that" stuff, below are results from 1991 herculis meet (21 on the line, 19 finishers). i only remember a few things from the race: a better man would probably not admit to being a little star-struck in this field of olympic and world championship gold medalists; i am not that better man. i remember steve cram seeming like he was 7 foot tall (not his purported 6'1"); i remember them announcing various accomplishments of these gold medalists and world record holders in french, and actually laughed out loud when they announced my 4th place finish at pac-10s; i remember having said aouita boxed in on the first turn and almost letting him out out of respect. the rest is a blur, but it was a PR at the time by 0.21 seconds...
that's still my story, and i'm still sticking to it,
