Typical, if you don't think like the minority you're an a$$hole.
Beth Alford Sullivan has done nothing to warrent being selected as head coach. That's why the AD had to violate Pennsylvania law in order to slip this one through.

There is about 2 dozen of you that even give a crap about the topic - and since you are so vocal, it sounds like it is hundreds of people that oppose this appointment - and that just isn't the truth.
It's not very authentic to pass this off as some kind of "human tragedy"

Men don't want to be coached by a women. Yes, I said it. Some of you might say, "No, Brian you're wrong I don't care." But most of you do care and don't want to be coached by a women.
.
you should speak for yourself. Women are great coaches and coach men all the time. Roger Kingdom was coached by his fiancee (who was a woman) right to 2 gold medals and three Olympic teams. You should not assume all men have your issues.

First off darkness, I wouldn't care if a girl or guy was my coach. Look at Lukezic...girl coach, if I am not mistaken. Secondly, you jack ass, when and how does it matter if your coach was a four minute miler or a 5 minute miler? So every sub-4 miler must be a good coach? B.S.!!! Tell me how many times Bill Bowerman ran 8:15 3k or a 4:10 mile? Tell me how many times Vin Lananna ran 8:15 3k or a 4:10? How fast have the Hanson brothers ran in respective events? Sure, there are a lot of good coaches who have run fast times and had successful coaching careers, but it doesn't always equate. So, I guess Alan Webb sucks too, since his coach only ever ran a 4:16 mile?
You're an a$$hole, just like everyone else who believes in this crap!
Didn't say that any runners "sucked" because of the quality of their coaches athletic accomplishments. I DID say that most HS and college boys would rather be coached by a man. That is my opinion and I believe, if surveyed, those people would support this opinion. Certainly there are great female coaches out there, certainly some of them coach males, but that doesn't mean that it works best for everyone.
Ask females if they like male coaches for college and I bet it is the same thing. Men cannot truly relate to female-specific issues like menstruation and anorexia and how hard it might be for females to run 70 mpw. They never had to deal with the first two and probably did the last one with ease.
Just because I would not want to be coached by a woman doesn't mean it is universal, but just because YOU WOULD doesn't make it the definitive word either.
Be objective about it and admit that most 18-24 year old males fell that way.
And you are right, by your estimation, because I say what I feel, I AM an A$$hole. That is why my handle is darkness.

Right. That is why I used the word MOST. It is also my opinion, based on experience and speculation. It could never be proven that "most" males feel this way. It is too subjective.
Also, preferring to be coached by a male does not equate to "having issues."
I can't say I'd want to be coached by a female and the overwhelming majority of men I know feel the same.

Kingdom was coached by his fiancée. The dynamic there is obvious. Not in a million years would Kingdom ever be coached by Beth Alford-Sullivan or any woman other than his fiancee. Do you think that Mike Shine would have ever gone to Penn State if BAS was coach? Add another 2 million years.
This has nothing to do with "issues" it's entirely about Beth Alford-Sullivan's competence as a coach. Her resume is one of the most egregious examples of resume padding I've ever seen. This woman is a weasel in the first degree. Everything about her is personal advancement, her reputation as a back-room wheedler is well-deserved. She has not credentials of her own.
Let me ask you something, do you think that Suzy Favor-Hamilton would ever consider being coach by BAS? Do you think that SFH would ever call BAS competent? So is SFH a misogynist? How come the top women athletes are not seeking out women coaches? If the women aren't why would you think the men should, and why would they seek out a 3rd rate coach like BAS? Tell us all about it?
By combining the programs the coaches will be coaching by event not gender. This is going to benefit many areas of the men's program. The will be getting more direct input for coach Chris Johnson who has seen only success from his athletes. The men's sprint team needs to learn disciplin, as the his female athletes do, and they need to be challeneged with the hard workouts that he gives his athletes. The men's sprint program has workouts that are jokes.
This combining of the team will only help their cause. The coaching staff will be stronger as a whole, with 7 people as support, one of which who will not be coaching but will be doing administrative work. They can hire 7 volunteer coaches. It will be an amazing amount of input and support for all of the athletes. BAS needs to work on how she develops her distance runner, that is a fact that I am not denying. But she also gives kids a chance to develop in other areas (sprints, jumps, throws) and takes chances on "above average, but not great" athletes out of high school.

I submit this does rise to the level of the Hindenberg going down in flames.
I also suspect that there will be "hundreds" of people in Happy Valley this weekend who do in fact oppose this appointment. And it will be quite interesting to see what sort of reception BAS gets from the hundreds who will be there who hold Harry in high regard.
Hey I have nothing against women, as a matter of fact I'm married to one and am quite pleased to admit to that.
Where her gender becomes an important issue is how does a 40ish (?) year old woman develop a relationship with 18 year old men that needs to be sustained over a period of 4-5 years to get them to achieve the results that they are truly capable of?
I wonder if Curley cue ever asked this question in throughout the "Interview" - ha ha - process?
Can she succeed in this experiment? It's possible.
Does she have significant hurdles that she will have to overcome that someone else would not have? Heck yeah.
This to me is the most frustrating part. Those of us that do care about bringing Penn State back to where it clearly can be are going to have to stand on the backstretch and watch for the next 5? years to let Curley's experiment play out one way or another. And if it goes the way that many of us feel it will likely go, we will then have to start all over again.
The stopwatch is ticking

BAS has not been invited to speak. If she had been, there would have been a proper protest.
I am sorry they can have 7 people volunteer, which will be a big help for the program. Those who are being vocal on here, are you part of the program currently? Does thsi even affect you at all? It has happened, it is official so just deal with it and learn to adjust.
Deal with it and learn to adjust? You mean like "you'll get nothing and like it"?
Thanks for the advice Beth

I just wonder why people who have no dog in this fight insist on posting under many different names?
I've requested that wejo remove you from your monitor position .

malmo, you again?
All of Harry's alums remeber the good ol' days when he could coach and they ran fast. Well those days have been long gone. You all would be hard on anyone taking over his position, but because it is a female is stings a little more, which I understand and I realize it is probably not Harry's dream pick. BAS will most likely be at the party this weekend, so happy valley watch out some 50+ year old men are going to cause some trouble...haha, won't that be a sight to see.

how can you hire a volunteer?

You really are a moron. Alums fund the PSU program entirely. Yes, that is mostly through football, but without alumni the PSU athletic program is in shambles.
We care about the program that we dedicated countless hours to for 4-5 years. This is not just about the current team members.
