Lots of letsrunners love to hate Mu, but I don't mind her approach this season. It's pretty clear by now that she has been struggling mentally with pack running after missing the Olympics last year due to a fall - something not a single person on these message boards can relate to. So, she and Kersee have picked low stakes races to practice pack running and are slowly upping the intensity (speed of the race) by dropping down shorter distances until we culminate at an actual 800 race again at Pre Classic.
Are there other approaches that might get her there? Sure. Is this the best possible route? I'm not convinced, but I can understand the logic behind it. We'll see if it works out. I'm hoping that it does because competitive races with more of the fastest runners at their best are always better than slower, less competitive races. Cheer for Hodgkinson over Mu all you want, but it'll be a better race if Mu is able to show up at her best.
