Just think, in a year or two, you’ll be following your favorite ai movie star on the instagrams, liking posts of them purchasing their favorite made-up beverage at their favorite made-up starbucks. Sounds dreamy.
They are indeed; however, still there are challenges.
From what I've read, the tech companies still have yet to develop the necessary technology to make an AI "Rojo" that can spell correctly. The scientists have said this technology is still years away.
Insane we went from making fun AI making hands with 6 fingers and Will Smith eating spaghetti to this in under 2 years.
Insane that people are still doubting that AI wont be decimating the job market within the next 5 years, or that it has somehow mysteriously reached its limit. In fact, it's pretty insane that more people aren't talking about what is around the corner.
Still, we can see that there are still nuances with the anatomy and naturalness of movements, but the pace of development is simply insane. I wonder when the first fully virtual influencers will appear, collecting millions of views

Eh, it's hard to imagine this being anytime soon (in the next decade, say), unless you think people laughing at how bad the AI is should count.
It feels like the whole tech industry has replaced the old "the last 10% of the project takes 90% of the work" adage with "well, we can cherry pick some good 8 second clips, so with exponential growth I'm sure this tech will be perfect after another couple updates."
It seems like most big tech companies are focusing on needlessly contentious projects that have no real hope of being good anytime soon instead of currently deliverable goals that will generate lots of profit while not pissing anyone off.
For example, just this morning I saw news about disney launching some AI version of darth vader, complete with a simulation of James Earl Jones' voice trained on his actual voice recordings. The coverage was all about how kids were tricking it into saying profanities or how voice acting unions were outraged and suing over it. No mention of why anyone thought releasing this would be a good idea or bring any entertainment value (beyond that gained from laughing at clips of it swearing).
In contrast, it seems like deepmind is the only big AI company that's actually made some effort to solve specific practical problems. Training an AI to understand protein folding or multiply matrices 1% faster isn't as sexy as continuously claiming you're on the verge of releasing a general purpose machine that will transform all aspects of the economy, but those things have already generated billions in new biotech or efficiency savings instead of memes and outrage.

“Right around the corner!”
”just a few more years!”
”you’ll see! Right now it’s so good for what it is! It’s not there yet but it’s so close!”
Vedal987 on Twitch is the developer of AI Vtubers called Neurosama and Evil Neurosama, and his channel is one of the bigger ones on the site.
Granted a lot of the content is based around the development of the AI and not just the AIs themselves, but the twins can carry a stream on their own or in collabs with other creators. Currently Neuro is having an ongoing argument with Grok.
It's very interested if AI is your thing, and often very entertaining.

The fact that you follow that explains a lot...
Why not use your regular handle to insult me.
I'm interested in software development, but I'm not going to lie to you and tell you it's not entertaining.

I'm curious what you find the appeal to be (in a genuine, non-insulting way). I just skimmed through some recent videos on the nuero-sama youtube page, and at least from what I saw the potential appeal seemed like it would come mostly be from the absurdity of the AI and the co-hosts being good at bouncing off that. I can understand that, but I'm not really sure if it has much to offer besides the novelty.
In the video I watched a few minutes of, the AI character starting by claiming not to know the other video hosts (who apparently just finished a project working closely with it to make a different video), then went off topic about internet porn, then starting talking about how it felt like a baby pigeon that people were watching, then acted upset when the other hosts said it felt like a baby pigeon,...
