None of the many liberal women I know think, for example, that their birthday is any day other than their actual day of birth so they definitely base some of their thinking on facts. You should consider doing so too.

The hard-core Libbies won't believe or acknowledge something, then when confronted with irrefutable facts, they slide into ignorance or name calling. That delusion is exactly why the media, instituion and political leaders take advantage of manipulating and grooming their small minds--and they don't even realize it!

I mean conspiracy theory is hyperbole. That’s silly. It’s one of the biggest possible explanations which some quality supporting evidence.

I don’t think you need to go off on “liberal women” though. There are plenty of right wingers who are 100% certain COVID came from a lab and will call anyone who dares to question them a moron.

Most (nearly all?) liberal women I've known think their date of birth has hugely influenced their life and who they are due to where the planets and stars were on that day, so I think this might actually be a terrible example of liberal women using facts in their reasoning.

One of the most significant gaps is the lab leak hypothesis is that WIV wasn't known to have a closely related precursor to the Covid-19 virus. That kind of implies that WIV either had a virus they weren't publicly cataloging or they were manipulating viruses in ways they have publicly admitted to. In this sense, the belief in the lab leak hypothesis does imply belief that WIV is "conspiring" to hide relevant facts which is a "conspiracy theory" in some sense.

Conspiracies do happen, of course, and the Chinese have been far less transparent than one might hope, so the lab leak can't be ruled out, but on the publicly available data there are significant holes in the lab leak hypothesis.

Yes, and it because of people like that that we got a covid pandemic. There is much worse out there waiting for a lab accident. Covid was only a Warning.

#2 is just wrong on the available public evidence, that is, there were probably at least two spillover events early in the pandemic and numerous documented inter-species spillovers since.

As a general rule, anyone who is absolutely certain about the origins of Covid-19 on the public evidence can be assumed not to be credible.

We're in a post-truth era where most people can't figure out what's real on complex topics that require special knowledge. If you think about it: it's actually really challenging and time-consuming on any controversial topic. So much politics trying to convince people one way and the opposite.
