He compares it to his previous achilles injury. For anybody who is hoping this might be extremely minor and he is back up to his normal load very quickly, it doesn't sound like that's the case.
Sounds like he's doing just his slower 10-20k runs (he didn't specify, just said long runs), and doing everything else with elliptical and aqua jogging.
Says he's feeling better every day. Doesn't give a possible time table for ramping his training back up. Just says he is doing what he needs to do to be ready for world championships, which is the main goal, as well as having a long career.

99% sure you misunderstood him my dude. When he said he was focusing on “the long run” he meant the future, not literal long runs.
Arf, it seems a bit more serious than i hoped... Timing is bad, i was expecting ont of the most incredible season ever and in all sports.
But it's Jakob, he has a good head on his shoulders and he'll be back !
Agree it's more serious than I thought but he's still targeting worlds, so hopefully it works out.
We should probably put the brakes on any talk of WR attempts, although if he starts running again in a couple of weeks and stays healthy, maybe August/September is not out of the question.
He sounds like the goal is to be running again in a few weeks, which would be the second week of June perhaps. That is enough time to be running well in early August-Worlds. It is probably not enough time to be chasing records/off-events. His “2024 Pre” might be London in this scenario, with about 5-6 weeks of training into it (its hard to imagine Pre this year is realistic). He could be really close to 100% by Silesia and up there by Worlds.
Filming that video while showing off his cars is cringeworthy. Can’t feel any pity for someone who shows off like that.
Nice to see that being the best runner in the world can payoff though. Not quite MLB or NBA money, but I'm sure he's maximized those Norwegian sponsors to the fullest. Or, perhaps he's just spending all his money on his hobby/addiction.

And in a completely unintuitive way, this could actually help him with the world champs being historically late (beaten only by the heat-danger WC's of Doha that were end of September/beginning Oct in 2019).
Last season he was out with the same issue Jan/Feb, back fully training by the end of March and was able to run a 3.45 mile at Pre a little over 8 weeks back. By July the 12th (let's say around 100 days later) he was in sub 3.27 shape. If he can get over this and be back healthy by the middle of June, he will have approximately the same amount of time before the WC's start. I think that this effectively means any legitimate attempts at WR's might be challenging this season - as you said maybe something in Silesia is feasible, but who knows.
When I said it could help him, that's because on the flipside all his main competitors are going to be racing more than they ever have in their careers as they even approach the middle of the season. The GST boys are only halfway through their doubling "delight" (dilemma?) and I would much rather be heading into September slightly underdone and on the way up than the opposite if I had to choose being under-raced or over-raced.
Of course all of this depends on him actually getting healthy and getting healthy soon. I don't think it's curtains yet as long as he can be back close to full health by the middle/end of June. Bigger picture what does suck is that it seems one of his prime years where he seems like he is right in his window for breaking records etc, might be lost or dramatically reduced.

He has the major advantage too of not having a Trials race to worry about. The 5,000 he is defending Champ so that wouldn't be an issue anyway. But he will ideally be able to get an uninterrupted block in July as his rivals (outside of Kerr) will be in some high-profile races. It will also be interesting to see how Hocker/Nuguse handle the post-USAs period when it comes to Diamond Leagues. It seems pretty safe to assume their only DL before USAs will be Pre Classic. So from there, maybe they can secure a spot in the DL final running only one DL in August. Given how much they're racing, and how intense USAs will be it doesn't make a ton of sense to be *too* active in August. That being said, these guys do like racing and they want to run something fast for both confidence and preparation for a very fast World final in all likelihood.

This is a non factor point considering he runs every major european championship
The difference with this injury and his previous one, is that this time is has an incredibly solid base fitness of winter training and races behind him.
It was announced on Norwegian news today (NRK1) that Jakob will not compete at the Bislett Games, but his season opener will be in Ostrava. I take that as a green flag. They're only 12 days apart (June 12th and June 24th). If he "only" needs 12 days extra preparation, then it can't be too bad.
There were a lot of speculations last year (before the season even started) if Jakob's season would be ruined. I'd say that wasn't the case (the 1500m final in Paris might not have turned out the way Jakob hoped, but that was due to tactis and not an injury). I'd say he delivered significantly better last year than many were fearing at the start of the season. He seems to know what he's doing, even in times like these. Best of luck to him this season.
Prior to today I was thinking "He's either gonna do both Oslo and Ostrava, or none of them, and postpone his season opener by a lot". Seems like I was wrong.
(And last year prior to the Prefontaine Classic mile I thought: Coming of his winter injury, Jakob is either gonna win the mile in Eugene, or finish far down the result list. I don't think there's much of an in between. I was wrong there too. And I'm pretty happy about being wrong in both cases)
