Race Vid
She'll do a Katrin Krabbe ala 1991, when the German opened with a number of mediocre runs over 100m, losing to Perec, Privalova & others, but came back in Tokyo and win a medal. Same preparation, same city, same outcome..
Wow, she looked awful. One of the vids said that the rest of the field didn't have prs better than 11.2.
Ouch.

Lather, rinse, repeat. Last year she also opened poorly and all the haters started the vitriol and the self appointed sprint experts wet themselves. She opened with a 22.99 in China followed by a 23.11 a week later and everyone declared her washed. A month later she ran 10.86, then ended up running 10.71 at trials, so it worked out fine.

She's clean right now. Will be back on the sauce and running 10.7 later this year.
FFS it's just her first race of the season. Give the woman a darn break.
She has lost weight. Still looks fit.
As someone else pointed out SCR started poorly last year (also losing to an Aust sprinter) and ended up fine
The bigger question is what is up with C. Coleman? He has had a few races now and not moving forward at all. In fact 0-2 against the new Pro Miller

Coleman's most potent weapon is his start. It has been absent since last year. Without it, he's just an also ran sprinter since he doesn't have the speed endurance or he doesn't know how to manage it. Either way he's now very much middle of the pack.

Agreed. This is why some athletes don't like to race unless they're ready to run well. The world championships are nearly 4 months away, so there's still plenty of time for Sha'Carri to round into form.
Although it was only her season opener, it's still jarring for me as a Sha'Carri fan to see her run 11.47. I would think even an out-of-shape SCR could run 11.2. Yes, there was a headwind, but it wasn't that bad; it was -0.9. At the LA Grand Prix in late May 2023, she ran into a comparable headwind (-0.8) and ran 10.90.
The commentator in the video below observed that Sha'Carri was wearing a leg sleeve over her right calf and wondered if she's been dealing with a calf issue. The commentator said SCR has been spotted wearing that sleeve in recent weeks, so potentially there's cause for concern beyond just being rusty.
SCR's lackluster performance is also bad timing because she's one of the faces of the ad campaign for Nike's new Hyperboot, which released this weekend. I imagine Nike would have liked to see her win her race on the same weekend they released that shoe.
On the bright side, this race was held in the same stadium where this this year's world championships will be held. As far as I know, this was Sha'Carri's first time racing in Tokyo, so even if she didn't run well, it was still good for her to gain experience running there.
Idk man.
Something seems off here. The fluctuation in Sha'Carri's times seems like a statistical outlier. Like, to the point it raises red flags.
How does an elite 100m runner have almost a full second of spread between min and max times. That doesn't even seem believable at a high school level.
Hiroki Yanagita taking the win the men’s 100 is probably the bigger upset (as stated Shacarri tends to start her seasons slow). And Christian Miller also beating Coleman is a nice scalp
Also cool to see Izumiya the hurdler in the long jump, over 8 meters

Huge appearance fee and WAY EARLY in what is going to be a long season culminating with the world champs.
I'm guessing she's gonna be just fine.
She’s not big framed. She can’t generate power “naturally” year round. Whatever the stimulus she needs to be primed, be it fast lifting, a specific plyos or specific max v work she does in her competition phase makes for the huge fluctuation. Doesn’t matter, Alfred is going to smoke her.
that's... .8 seconds off... wrote:

There have always been huge fluctuations in her performances every single year.
2019: She ran 10.7 in college then didn't make the USA team for Worlds.
2021: Instead of going to the Tokyo Olympics and competing in the relay to gain the experience on the biggest of stages, she decided to stay home and throw shade. She then entered the wrap up race in Eugene and ran 11.14 after running 10.7 in one of her USA qualification races a month or two earlier.
2023: After pb at Worlds in 10.65, ran 10.80 for 4th place at the wrap up Diamond League race in Eugene a few weeks later.
2024: After running 10.70 or 10.71 to qualify for the USA team, then ran 10.8 high at the Olympics. In the Diamond League final in Brussels a few weeks later, she ran 11.23 for last place.
Her lack of consistency is concerning to me. I don't know why the lack of consistency, but I am saddened that someone so magnificently talented is squandering her talent. She should have been dominating the 100M sprints by now and running 10.5s - 10.6s to low 10.7s consistently.
Ohhhh, hokeydokey-dopeyyyy!
