Agreed. Stark contrast from the 5k, where he's not the star of the show till well into the last lap. I find it so funny how he says he wants to win the 1500m from the front to show how much better he is than everyone else, but he is peak sit and kick in the 5k lol.
I think people just like to see gusty performances, and Jakob has them more than anyone else because he's always pushing the pace. Also why it's so fun to watch guys like Nico Young, who visibly enter the pain cave 400m into any race, yet somehow manage to speed up every lap.

Nico's face is already contorted in pain when he wakes up in the morning.
Jakob indeed offers gusty performances, you can here the whoosh as he clicks off each lap.
It's pretty simple. In 5000, he is fastest guy, so he sits and kicks.

It’s not gutsy. It’s desperation born out of the knowledge that pushing the pace is his only chance of winning. If Jakob could win a 1500 the same way he wins the 5000, he would.

Maybe he thinks he is so good at the 5000m that it will be harder to win in a sit and kick rather than a hard race with 60-61 second laps.
I agree. I think it is insane that people say he was a total loser because didn't even medal... Pre didn't medal either in 1972, but he made the race a lot more interesting.
In every race, there are the guys on the podium but there are also guys who "make the race" and those names don't always overlap.
In cycling it is common for a breakaway to make the race interesting and those guys are rewarded with something called "most aggressive" (and they can even earn bonus money for making the race interesting). It doesn't matter that they usually get gobbled up by the peloton.
Jakob got beat, but without him, that race would have been very, very different.
Sorry Jakob haters. Even when Jakob loses he’s the star of the show. Got some ballz on him to push that race from the gun.
Love him or hate him, every race is better when Jakob is racing.
When I see Jakob on the line in the 1500 it conjures for me the opening lines of Infinity War....
"In time, you will know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're right, yet to fail, nonetheless. Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives." Thanos
I'll leave to everybody to decide who Jakob is in this story....
I'm not qualified to comment on the tactics or anything like that, but I think the fact he pushed the pace so hard brought out the best in the other athletes, so although the didn't medal, I think he largely made it into an Olympic classic.

The interesting thing about this race is that it completely went away from the strategy from every fast race he had done up to that point. The last time he opened up in sub 55 seconds for the first lap was in the Zurich diamond league final 2022. Look at these splits:
You mean because like the tv production is focusing mostly on him or because he decided the best way to try to win were by applying possibly the dumbest tactics possible so he led the majority of the race giving himself almost no chance of winning?
Nope. The star of the show was Femke Bol when she closed up 10m in the last 10m of the 4x400.
Under normal physical laws it's not possible to catch a runner 10m ahead with only 10m to go, unless that runner comes to a dead stop. But somehow she did it.
And don't deny you yelled louder to see that, than at Jakob in any of his races.

There’s a lot courage involved. That’s why’ll you’ll never see Kerr, Nuguse, Hocker and others take the lead from the start or even halfway in a major championship. Never.

I think you are a 100% wrong here… (Because you clearly haven’t paid attention to what Jakob has stressed in his interviews, and probably because of a too strong bias as a hater).
My guesses is that Jakob would have done a sit and kick in the 1500m (or at least not a front running) if this mid distance was scheduled post 5000m (because of not being fully rested). But as long as the 1500m comes prior, he will (and according to his own saying) try to win dominantly and «honourably». Also because he thinks front running is the best tactics. And I agree -the only problems seem to be misjudging the pace, and that his competitors «agree» in sliding without fighting into his draft and therefore only gaining…
Jakob doesn’t voluntarily race the 5000m global champs the way he does. -He wants to race them as fast as possible, contributing and honest. Like he did as an exception in WC 2022. But he couldn’t follow thar recipe in 2023 because of sickness, and neither in OG 2024 where he doubled, and was very on his toes because of the pace screw up in the 1500m, but first and foremost because he met a well rested Gebrhiwet.

Why is the assumption here that courage requires front running? How many championship victories are achieved that way? Is it cowardly for Jakob to sit and kick to win the 5k?

If Jakob thinks the "honorable" way to win the 1500 is to lead why doesn't he think the same for the 5k? Does "honor" not matter in longer distances? Only winning?
