Biggest high-level stuff was Uganda might have a new 5K youngster in Kibet (5th at U20s to 13-dead) and a pretty monster mark/performance by Nyaga to run 14:19 and gap Battocletti by 13s.

Sam Clifford ran 27:34, beating Jack Rayner's old mark of 27:43.
And Izzy Batt-Doyle ran 30:44, beating her own previous record of 31:12.
The 34th fastest Australian at 5,000m is now the national 10km record holder, and people trust this course measurement that was basically an event to sell shoes?

You don’t think the technically advanced Japanese could have laser-measured this course to the nearest millimeter?
This wasn’t a bouncy ‘short’ track somewhere inside, like at the Armory. Noooo…they literally closed down the streets of Tokyo. With over 2700 participants, a short-course measurement across all those GPS watches would not escape the news, if true.
This was a World Athletics certified race with multiple wavelight settings.

An incredible three Area Records, 10 National Records and 48 Personal Bests were recorded in the World Athletics certified Tokyo : Speed : Race in the heart of Tokyo.
Five National Records were broken in the 5km race. Nadia Battocletti, Italy, set a European Record and an Italian National Record with a time of 14:32. In the 10km Race, five National Records were broken, including an Australian double, with Isobel Batt-Doyle finishing with a time of 30:44 to also clinch a new Area Record and Sam Clifford finishing in 27:34. Simbassa Abbabiya, US, completed the 10km in 27:32 securing a new American Record while Mekdes Woldu set a new French Record with a time of 31:01 in the 10km race.
Caroline Nyaga, Kenya, was the fastest woman in the 5km race with a time of 14:19, beating her current Personal Best, while Harbert Kibet, Uganda, won with a time of 13:00. Joy Cheptoyek, Uganda, took first place in the women’s 10km with a time of 30:22 and Jemal Yimer, Ethiopia, took first place in the men’s race with a time of 27:10.

Check Phil Sesseman for starters
It was a 1.9k loop in the shape of a track.
If your watch is on your left wrist, it may measure shorter. My watch used to consistently measure 4.92kms whenever I'd do a 5,000m on the track.
Check Reece Edwards' measurement. His watch is on his right arm (as shown in the photo he posted).
The trip turned bad for Hayden Wilde the next day. He had a bad accident on his bike, broke some ribs, punctured a lung, and will be stuck in Japan to heal for a few weeks.

That young lad was the Aussies junior top male finisher at world xc in Aarhus in 2019 as a 16 year old. He is loaded with talent and seems to have benefited from moving from tassie to Sydney.
Asics MetaSpeed series one of the most overrated and overhyped super shoes on the market. Bought 1st iteration and they were brutal. Bought Sky Paris and they were no better. Superfoam not super. Like a non-plated, old-school shoe. Bought online influencers peddling and pushing false narratives about the shoes frustrating. Other brands do similar [Puma currently].

Feels like the next generation of Ugandans on the track are really starting to come through with Kibet but also Keneth Kiprop running 13:00/27:09 already this year

Your use of the term “gapped”, as normally used in track talk, is not accurate. It wasn’t like Nyaga threw in a surge somewhere in the race that opened up a gap between the two. Rather, from the beginning of the race, Battocletti’s objective was to follow pace lights that were set to the European record.

I thought the first iteration of the NovaBlast, which received a lot of hype online back then, was underwhelming.
But I’ve had my eye on the Metaspeed for a while, and I’m thinking maybe they now have something. I watched the 5k race online with some of the pre-race, and those new shoes looked pretty compelling. And it is hard to argue with the fast times that were being laid down in them.

They ran this near the stadium where the World Champs will be held later this year. McColgan, commentating over the 5k, says the course was laid out to be fast.
