Either make a serious world record attempt or get banned for a year and have your pole snapped in half. Stop trying to increase it by a cm each time or whatever.
Of course hes playing the long game, but wouldn't you in his position? Hes young, he can do it on a whim any time he wants to and has no real competition.
Its very lame but its also a smart business decision. If he breaks in by a cm. each time, there will be larger crowds hoping to catch a new WR for years to come.

This take is just dumb. Mondo has no idea what 'peak' height he will hit on a world record attempt.
Why would he just make a ~6.35m attempt instead of 6.28? What happens if he would have cleared 6.34? It's still a failure and no improvement. If he'd have done what you suggest most of the time, he might never have improved the record at all. Even if he moved it up to 6.28 when he did the 6.27 vault, he might not have cleared that.
It isn't about improving the record at too small or increments, its about not knowing if you'd improve it at all.
From a realistic perspective, if he's vaulting really well he should probably try to go up a couple more times after he first beats the record though.
Pole vault is not a real sport. Nobody should be allowed to make money at it.
It matters to literally noone how high someone can jump using a long stick. That's why someone who grew up the son of an elite vaulter knows about 10 times as much about it as anyone else.
World Athletics needs to drop the pole vault. This is one great thing about Grand Slam Track. It's about the racing, not these silly contests on the infield.

You'd think in a sport as poor as Track and Field people would understand that an athlete is worth what people are willing to pay them. Mondo puts more butts in seats than most athletes, has a strong fanbase across multiple continents and is always performing at a high level. He is a way better investment than 99% of athletes in any other event.

lmao you think athletes are paid by the fans? You think those few "butts in the seats" are there to see the field events?
Mondo works for Puma, and has fans only because the Olympics make a big deal of his stupid event. Without the Olympics it would not exist. That's what the Olympics is about, showcasing stupid sports for ironic national glory.

Also 1 cm is a meaningful amount on those heights. There is a reason why 10 athletes have managed to clear 6.05m but only 3 have PRs over 6.10m.
also, join TEAM USA, or be banished to Scandinavia forever
I am sure he has a Green Card to work (In his case Train in the USA) I think he should be able to stay in the USA as long as he wants, he is not and probably never will be a Criminal. He does not cause trouble, In fact he makes people happy by entertaining them, I am fine with Immigrants like him and Bernard Lagat (Now a Citizen) living in the USA, They are Solid Good People, Also Mondo has USA Roots his Father is American and Represented The USA in the Pole Vault, and he went to High School and College in the USA, so he is assimilated to the USA Culture, Though he is a Swedish Citizen, USA will NOT have a War with Sweden, so there is no conflict of allegiance with him. THERE is ZERO reasons for him to be banished from the USA.
He's just taking a page out of the second greatest pole vaulter, Sergei Bubka's, book. It's a shame if we never see him jump as high as he can in his prime, but it's his show. I'm just happy to be here to see it.
