Southern education system thinks teaching math is for libs.
Well, I grew up in Oklahoma City. Spent every summer in Odessa TX working on oil wells with my "grandfather" who adopted my stepdad. Never met my biological father. I know Odessa is liberal and not considered southern or part of the Bible belt like places back east. I definately remember oklahoma schools having a strong stance AGAINST teaching evolution in science classes and all the parents had to be informed about how our public school does not teach evolution. I do not ever recall any rhetoric against mathematics or arithmetic. Overall, I wish I had graduated from Odessa or Midland High.
The fact is, this course being short kinda screwed with people's qualifying standards for the big bad boston marathon. I'm sure the BAA is investigating it and making sure it's the correct length before letting ppl qualify under it next year.
Mathematically speaking, 600ft is precisely 200 yards. That's adding about 34 seconds to elite runners who are running my pace or faster. Mind you, back in my day we didn't run meters. We ran yards, as meters were still considered a "foreign European concept".

You’re not that old, and you’re certainly not a 2:11 marathoner (34 seconds/200 yards pace).
600 feet is only 90 seconds if you’re running north of 13 minute mile pace. At 3:00 marathon pace, it’s ~46 seconds. Still would be vexing to run a PR and then learn that the course was short, though.

The 90sec quote from the article was included because I believe that news outlet caters to recreational runners (kinda like this one). I've ran 236 on multiple occasions, but that's not why I included the 34second estimate. I included that approximation because I am MAINLY a track guy. I'm in spikes 3x per week in San Antonio, usually do 25 x 200meters starting at 28sec and working down to 23sec. Therefore, 34 is pretty pedestrian for me, especially in the last 200 of a marathon race.
Regarding aging, I feel that I've aged well. Still have 1 biological parent who is still alive. Had a total lung transplant at age 8. Missed all of 2nd grade because of it. All my partners have been in their 50s and 60s. Oldest was 74. She was a retired psychiatrist from Santa Fe and lived with me for 4 years until she died at 78. As you can see, I have not had an easy journey.
Above all, I do not believe the runners from Atlanta should be punished by revoking the Boston qualifying status. It's not their fault. I simply hope Atlanta fixes the course so it's legitimate in the future.

Stop pulling the times our of your arse :DD You're only making a joke of yourself. The only "236" you might have run is at 800m or even at 600m.
California’s latest K–12 test scores were released earlier this month. Despite spending 26 percent more per pupil after inflation since 2011, test scores remain low, and improvement is proceeding at a glacial pace. Just 40 pe...
Do you really teach ornithology, coach at a college in San Antonio, and own teXXXas Tanning Salons LLC?
The430miler is also "byu123" and a Mormon who lives in Utah. He has lots of fake personas.
The only thing we know for sure about the430miler is that he pissed off a white house staffer and got beat up. Pretty much everything else he says is a lie.

You're a Mormon who lives in Utah and you're ALSO "in spikes 3x per week in San Antonio"? Wow, you must be racking up a whole lot of frequent flyer miles going back and forth between Utah and Texas 3 times per week.

We also know he impersonated his father for a media interview following that incident. He is a habitual liar, with a recent uptick in lies about his running abilities.

And just last week he pretended to be a 19 year old.

Also last week, he claimed to be in Des Moines for the road mile championships and targeting 4:15. Of course as expected his name wasn’t in the results and I didn’t spot him anywhere, because he’s full of sh1t.
Now he’s doing 25x200 working down from 28 to 23? Is he like a 1:42 guy today?

What is this about pretending to be a Mormon? I've never seen that.

The430miler is also "byu123", a devout Mormon who supposedly lives in Utah and attends all of Jane Hedengren's meets with his adult children. He's totally nuts!
