Do you think Jakob is/was significantly more talented than Henry and Filip, or did he just train more effectively from a younger age, given that Gjert was presumably learning as he went on?

Many times the youngest child is at an advantage and the oldest at a disadvantage because the parent/s learn from their early parenting mistakes and parent better with time. Sad but true.

Was Bill McChesney more talented than his older brothers Tom and Steve?

That’s got nothing to do with running. You’re posting in the wrong thread.

I think it was more so the way they developed the training over the years and got it more correct with him at an earlier age. I say this because from oldest to youngest they have better PBs. Filip is faster than henrik and Jakob is faster than filip. I do think the injury bug held back filip some since he improved to 3:30 but then injuries started really getting him. He actually got injured before becoming a 3:30 guy but he was young enough to bounce back. I think he wouldn’t ever have run 3:27 but maybe high 3:28/low 3:29. Also from the reality tv show he seems to be the least motivated out of the three
Its a bit of both, I think Jakob has more speed and strength naturally, but if the Henrik was trained better at a younger age he probably would be a sub 13 5k guy and Filip might be a 3:28-29 guy. Henrik didn't run his 3k-5k pb until his 30s which makes me believe his strength wasn't developed until later.
Even in like 2015-2017 when Henrik and Filip were in their heyday there were still rumors about Jakob being the most talented of the brothers. But I agree that it is probably a bit of both.

He’s more talented, he learned from his brothers, AND he was serious at a much younger age. The two brothers got serious in their mid to late teens. Jakob trained like a college runner in middle school. People that start double thresholds in their 20s are ten years behind Jakob. He’s probably got 70-80k miles under his belt and he’s just entering his prime. From an aerobic perspective, it’s basically an insurmountable moat against the competition.
there is no such thing as talented in running. You either run fast or you don't. Every component of it happens for a reason.
You may not know the reason - then you call it "talent." But in fact, it was the food you ate, what you did growing up, how your nervous system developed to move you around. How well your liver and other internal organs work.
It's not your genotype - that's like a "winning hand" at pinochle. No such thing. You play the cards the right way if you want to win. Genes are played epigenetically, switched on and off at the right times according to nurture.
Nobody knows entirely what environment leads to the best runner, but it's not inborn talent. There are elite runners of all sorts. Tall ones, short ones, stocky ones, skinny ones. Ones from every part of the world, from the lowlands, from the highlands, some rich, some poor. Some eat nothing but ugali and others eat nothing but fish.
There is talent and the benefits of iterative training improvements, and then there is the sheer bloody mindedness and confidence to win and endure pain. Jakob has boats loads of the later, which makes him stand out from his brother's but also almost everyone else in professional track.
I'm not sure if he's physically more talented than Filip, but their personalities differ quite a lot.
Jakob seems to have an obsessive drive to be the best, a kind of stubbornness that isn't dampened by setbacks or other life events - whereas, Filip seems to be a little more balanced in his priorities.
Ultimately, to be the best runner in the world - a compulsive need (some would say an unhealthy desire) is potentially the thing that will set you apart from other equally talented athletes.
Note: there's no question that Jakob is certainly more talented than Henrik though. Just from a biomechanical standpoint, Henrik is very much a stomper, which may partially be due to the large amount of XC ski training he did during adolescence.

I think he's well and truly in his prime, not entering it,and i also believe sooner or later his training like an adult when he was a child will come back to bite him. It will certainly shorten his career, and no amount of drive to win,or pain threshold will change that. He's a supreme athlete, but rather underweight. He also has competed and won races when he was sick, which could be damaging long term.Jakob is more talented than his brothers, but he's not superman.

Probably both, while it was said that Filip was the most talented one at some point. But imagine growing up and having a wc bronze medallist and someone who got fifth place at the olympics as your daily training partners, sharing all their tips and tricks to you.

You can't vote your way out of it, people. There is a reason for everything, you just don't always know what it is.
It hurts to admit your ignorance, but once you manage it, you'll stop waving off the unknown as "talent" and looking for the real reasons. Then you'll be a better, wiser coach, athlete, hobby jogger, whatever.
