We just got a press release from the London Marathon.
No specific injury was listed for Chepngetich. Her races since her 2:09:56 WR in Chicago last year hadn't gone that well (she ran 31:32 in a 10k on New Year's Eve in Madrid and 66:20 in the Lisbon Half on March 9 and was beaten in both).
“I’m not in the right place mentally or physically to race my best in London and I am therefore withdrawing," Chepngetich said. "I am very sad to miss the race and I hope to be back next year.”
Defending champ Peres Jepchirchir is also out with an ankle injury.
"Winning last year’s TCS London Marathon was one of the highlights of my career and I was very much looking forward to returning this year to defend my title," Jepchirchir said. "Unfortunately, my injury has made this impossible but I am focused on getting healthy again and hope to return to London again in the future when I’m fully fit.”
Vivian Cheruiyot is a late add to the field. She won London in 2018. She's 41 now, but she had a bit of a resurgence last year as she was 3rd in NYC in November.
