All time HS record
WOW
is this the greatest HS performance ever? how does this compare? 14:57 is so insanely fast I can't even mentally compare it.
Edit:
I guess not. Scoring tables comparison:
Kessler 3:34.36: 1184 points
Miller 9.93: 1231 points
Wilson 44.20: 1236 points
Hedengren 14:57: 1164 points
Lancaster 43.84 4x100: 1142 points
Jackson 10.89: 1224 points
Either way, 14:57 is F'ing nuts dude
She ran so aggressively from the gun! Absolutely love it. Fantastic performance.

Yes
She could probably run a tempo session and break the 10000m track record

No fear against the best in the NCAA. Could she individually podium in the fall? Is that too crazy to say?

Current record: 32:53.5 from 1979(!) by Mary Shea for anyone wondering

Valby became the first woman in the NCAA to run under 15:00 only 16.5 months ago. Now Hedengren has done it as a high schooler!! Amazing!
Lead from 2600m-4200m while the collegians sat on her. Probably could have gone a couple seconds faster with some help— so much for whoever said the BYU women were going to work with her

Why not? She only has to move up 1k, not like the guys who have to move up 5k.
Get her plane ticket to Tallahassee for World Cross next January, U20 or senior

Wow, her splits are very inefficient. She went out too quick and then bounced all over the place. Imagine if she could really lock in on 1:12:25 quarters.🤔
What a run. Let me try to put this in perspective for you.
She's now faster than Katelyn Tuohy.
The HS record before Jane was 15:25.27 (Jane had run 15:13.26 indoors)
Only 5 collegaite women have ever broken 15:00.
If Jane was in college, she'd be #6 all-time. Wow.
All Time NCAA List at 5000
14:52.18 Parker Valby (Florida) 6/08/24|
14:52.45 Pamela Kosgei (New Mexico) 4/17/2025
14:52.93 Lexy Halladay-Lowry (BYU) 4/17/2025
14:52.57i Doris Lemngole’ (Alabama) 12/07/24
14:52.84i Hilda Olemomoi’ (Florida) 12/07/24
14:57.93 Jane Hedengren (HSer) 4/17/2025
Jane's split 2:59.74 at 1k 9:00.16 at 3k. That means she hit 3200 in 9:36 and kept on going for almost another mile.

The lights help, no doubt.
i cant believe a HS girl just ran sub-15 wtf
edit ok this reminds me a lot of Kessler's 3:34 in vibe. Valby just became the first NCAA runner to run sub-15 last year, Kessler had ran faster than the record Nuguse had just set; 14:57 is just off the Oly qualifier I think, 3:34 was a bit under it; and apparently Kessler's WA score is a little better. Certainly one of the strongest records on the books, and clearly she's competitive collegiately. I'd love to know what she could do in a championship race where she wasn't leading a ton of it.

Duuude, she was already faster than Tuohy? Hello?!? So is Leachman, and others. Where have you been?
This is just absolutely shocking! She gets dramatically better as the distance gets longer. We almost never see this from young runners who haven't had time to build a massive base over the course of 5-10 years.
Kara Goucher set off the modern US running boom in 2007 with her silver at Worlds. Kara Goucher's PR is 14:55. 14:57 from a high schooler is just otherworldly!
