Craig is a licensed moron. Shouldve allowed Brazier to stay under the radar and show up the day of before announcing a comeback attempt that inadvertently places a lot of pressure on him.

What pressure? The guy has been out of the game for four years. I'm writing about Brazier, but this also fits Engels. And this point, it doesn't matter what either of them says (or doesn't say) if they're not racing world-class races and world-class times by this point.

True. Neither of them is going to make a dent ever again.
On one hand, it's great to see a guy come back from such a brutal injury that put him out of the sport basically 3 years.
On the other, I wonder if this is a serious comeback? Like is he really wanting to stay in the game and try and make a team (this season?). He just turned 28, while he definitely didn't max out his earning potential due to the injury, he must have made some great money there for at least 2-3 seasons - enough to set him up okay.
With the never-ending talent factory the US has in all events right now - the 800m no different, I just don't know what the best case outcome is here. I think if he broke 1.45 again it would be a miracle in itself, but is that really worth it? I guess if you love the sport it is. Right?

I'm just excited to see the guy on the track again. One of the best talents the US has ever seen in mid-d events. Despite wherever he currently is in fitness, anytime he steps on a starting line it becomes a much more intriguing race to me knowing the potential he has as an athlete.

Agreed. Just imagine Brazier fully fit and healthy, and taking bicarb!

The third 800m spot is Brandon Miller probably, but he is a major question mark tactically and lost to the guy Brazier would be fighting with to make a 1500m team in Kessler. Kessler was doubling back, too. The 1500 in the US is amazing, and the 800 is quite strong through two guys with decent guys battling for 3rd. Brazier was promising in the 1500, but he was amazing at the 800. He also couldn't handle volume really, so post-injury I don't quite get a move up which would require more running in all likelihood. It's exciting back at it, and hopefully we get Emmanuel Korir back, too. It's a shame we saw neither of these guys in Paris and in an era where guys went out to run 1:41-2s on the regular.
If Brazier can string together some bit of consistency, it’s possible that he can obtain world class status and maybe even rise to the top of the world again as he was from 2019-2021. But the fact that he’s training with Engels means Brazier is not taking this opportunity seriously at all, so I’m not expecting a return to greatness. If Brazier has any hopes of making a true run at this he needs to get away from the clowns, the distractions, and the attention seekers.

I feel like as good as the 800 is right now, the 1500 is even better. And they way it's being run at almost ever level now couldn't suit DB any less.
I guess at what point do you have to say to yourself, as much as I love the sport and competing, I had my time and a few things just weren't meant to be. I mean he's already one of the greatest American 800m runners ever - WC, former AR holder, was the best in the world for a 6 month stretch which isn't easy at all in that event, there would be no shame in moving on. Go get a job in Nike marketing like a lot of those former Nike guys did, whatever.
I just wonder what he's going to get out of this, but good luck to him - he's a champ for even giving it a shot.
