The Dutch wunderkid turns 20 today. It's been a joy to follow his developement so far, and I'm excited to see how fast he can run this season. The best of luck to him. Could he medal in Tokyo in september?

I'm Norwegian who follows athletics closesly, and I must admit that I did not expect some of Jakob's age-records being beaten so soon. I expected some of them to last an eternity (some of them probably will). But here we are. Laros, Myers and Ruthe (and Jakob of course) are a gift to the running world.
If we compare Jakob's best times as a teenager and Laros' best times as a teenager, we see that they're pretty close in some distances.
800m: Jakob: 1:46.44, Laros: 1:44.78
1000m: Laros: 2:14.37
1500m: Jakob: 3:28.68, Laros: 3:29.54
Mile: Jakob: 3:51.30, Laros: 3:48.93
2000m: Jakob: 4:50.01, Laros: 4:49.68
3000m: Jakob: 7:27.05, Laros: 7:29.49 (i)
5000m: Jakob: 13:02.03, Laros: 13:23.01
Don't pay too much attention to these age group records. The proof is in the pudding aka. winning and medals.
For example, Jakob has 16 senior European gold medals, or 5 at the same age as Laros. Laros so far has 0.
He could also get injured right before the LA Olympics and fade away, like Rob Druppers in the past.
Dutch male athletes are not really winners.
Maybe Semi-Belgian Max Verstappen has turned the tide.

He's not going to win medals unless he learns to run closer to the pace
Always too much to do
sleeping on Laros
he is a phenom
pretty much any teen that makes an OG final is an all time great
instead of going for 142 800 hes going for 5000m strength
which is a good path in the tradition of everyone right now
nobody has a great 800, though hobbs has a decent time in the age of bicarb
next level is following coe, with just a bit better aerobic, though Coe was a beast for a guy that could have been a long sprinter.

Dutch have always punched way above their weight in soccer (not been so good the last decade or so though). 6th in the Paris (overall) medal table behind only France in Europe.
Ever heard of Femke Bol?
I don't think the comparison with Jakob winning 5 Euro titles is completely fair as the standards have risen quite sharply over the last five years (caused no doubt by Jakob himself raising the standards).
*wunderkiNd
And doubtful on the medal, but it sure would be cool.

“Wunderkid” is gringo German for wonder kid.

Thanks to Ted Lasso nobody knows if people are using the wrong word on purpose or accident.
It's wunderkind.
