But he will probably never match Bolt's power. He had time to celebrate in the Olympic 100m final. Time. To. Celebrate. I doubt we will see that again.

I don't want to sound like ArmstrongLivs here, and this kid is clearly a freakish talent, but let's assume he's not doping - as you really should do for an Australian kid his age. I mean, we all know that the vast majority of the top sprinters dope and always have done, including almost certainly Bolt himself. And yet, if he's not doping now, just by natural progression you'd expect him to get close to Bolt's records. So either he might become world record holder naturally in a field dominated by roid heads, or he might conceivably run low 9 seconds if he does at some point start doping? Either seems pretty crazy if you think about it.

It might be that, but how fast would Bolt have run if he was doped then?

I'm not a big fan of the 'dopers can only beat dopers' argument, but I am suspicious when it's said about athletes who had so many of their countrymen confirmed as doping (examples : El G didn't need to dope, Bolt didn't need to dope, Kipchoge didn't need to dope etc). I mean, these freak clean athletes always come along in countries with massive and confirmed doping cultures?

The sport needs this kid. First guy in ages who has been able to fill up a stadium off name alone in ages. Will he be a world record holder? Only time will tell, but even if he only sniffs Bolt's times it will bring some needed media attention to the sport.

One can only hope he progresses as moving ahead to 2032 the Olympics will be in his backyard in Brisbane Australia. Would be legendary stuff if he gets a medal

Yeah, I think the 100m record is the only one where there’s a chance that organized human civilization collapses before it’s broken.

I've never heard anyone say doping had no effect or made them worse.

Bolt is 6’05”. He took 41 strides in 100m world records, while other super elite sprinters take 43-44.

If Gout, as reported, is the same height as Lyles, 5’10”.

There is no way he comes close to matching Bolt’s stride length.

Then, there are the other variables besides stride length, i.e. stride frequency, start, confidence, etc.

Gout does not even have a single legal sub 10 or sub 20 100m or 200m time.

He’s a rail thin and 5’10. He isn’t ready to race the best internationals at senior level. He needs to run world juniors, etc.

This is interesting to me. The conventional wisdom is that sprinters have to be super muscular and bulkier. Perhaps being a little leaner is more optimal. Will Gout Gout challenge this?

Bolt spread his power evenly throughout his body, resulting in him being relatively injury free during his prime, which stretched to three Olympics, where he won the 100m and 200m at THREE Olympic Games.

Bolt is so far ahead of anyone. His wins and records won’t be matched by anyone currently competing.

He's young and very lanky, give him a few more years of lifting and his power will increase. The dude is still improving at a pretty quick rate, I think he'll be in contention to win the 200m at worlds this year, and then 'the man' in 2027 and 2028. And maybe even the 100m by then.

Only Australian’s, who have never had a finalist at the global level in the 100m or 200m in 50+ years, would lose their mind over a 20.0 100m who can’t break 10 in the 100m. If he was American, he’d be second string 400m hurdler.

I just can't take seriously the opinion of somebody who thinks the plural of Australian should be apostrophised.

Gout Gout doesn’t even turn 18 until December 29th so he’s still more than likely got some more growing to do. He’s currently 5’11. Bolt didn’t break 20s in the 200m until he was just shy of his 19th birthday and 10s for the 100m not until he was 21. Gout Gout has run wind assisted 9.99s and 19.84s. They weren’t massive tailwinds though. He’s way ahead of where Bolt was at the same age.
