Better name him in the first wave of athletes selected for worlds. Totally deserves his spot. Ollie looked better than indoor season. he’s building nicely and will get the standard. 3rd spot up grabs. A few capable of getting the standard.
Jude Thomas with a class run. Tough thing is getting 4th and later getting the standard doesn’t put you in a great situation for getting selection (barring hoare and Spencer do too)

How does the Aus qualification for Worlds work in terms of automatic vs discretionary spots? Are Myers and Spencer guaranteed spots now, and 3rd spot is discretionary?
I was hoping this would mean Ollie had a spot on the team.

Isn’t it just the top 2 get it if they have the standard? Since only Myers has it, it goes discretionary from here…Hoare/Spencer look likely though.

If I’m remembering correctly, I think just Myers is guaranteed as of now. Top two are guaranteed spots if they have the standard at the time of Aussie champs.
Unsure if Athletics Australia has changed their rules in the past few years, as I remembering that specific rule being a controversial one.
Ollie should hit standard later in year, Spencer in the right race should as well.
Not sure how stoked Olli is about getting beaten by two teenagers and get third, not securing selection for the World's Team which an athlete of his caliber should be able to secure much more easily than this--especially since the Australian Team is much easier to make.

I’m sure he is NOT stoked, but all in all he’s in position to make the team if he hits the standard/ranking and someone like Jude Thomas doesnt start running 3:30s. Also Spencer is 23, and probably about as close to Ollie in age as being a teen.

Aussie 1500m: Such better announcing compared to anything you get in the States.
Reminds me of David Coleman in how he can in evoke positive emotion from the viewer while also not overdoing it.
Im American by the way.
Bruce McAvaney is one of the alltime great sports voices - especially if you are antipodean. Right up there with Benaud, Lawry, Toni Greig, Ray Warren et al.

This is some classic BMc commentary work in the box. "The champs away but Niyongabo will try and stick....can't for the moment...."
Yes, McAvaney studies the ‘form’ before the races he calls, and knows his stuff. He calls it like a horse race (which he also does do I think). Professional pride. Must have a decent brain to do this. Unfortunately, most commentators these days can’t even pronounce the names correctly and get mixed up, even when they’ve had plenty of time to study (and are being paid well). They sound pretty dim. A lot don’t have the voices for commentating either - just irritating. I wish we could always have a McAvaney or Cram calling the track races. It would make a big difference.

Spencer is 23, runs 3:31.
Myers is incredible and absolutely should have been in Paris last year.
Not a great result for Hoare, but not terrible, and way, way, better than anything he showed in that calamity of an indoor season, so steps in the right direction.
