I wrote an article earlier this week trying to put Grand Slam Track's launch in perspective and contrast it a bit with the Diamond League and Athlos.
I had this line in it about Athlos: "right now, it is one meet on one day at the very end of the season, which makes it almost impossible to be a transformational entity in the sport."
Felt it was 100% accurate.
— our prize was record-breaking at the time (April 2024) — but I'll admit that's old news, we have much more to do to improve @athlos
and hopefully have a positive impact on the sport; you'll be the judge, Weldon."
Should I be flattered I'm bulletin board material for him or is it a sign of I'm off-base?
To Ohanian's credit he could argue Athlos was transformational in the sense that his competitors are raising the amount of prize money they are offering to keep up. He could aruge without his meet, everyone would be operating how they were. My main point was a one day meet at end of season isn't that transformational. And I think GST was coming along regardless of his meet but maybe I'm wrong on that front.
