The Football player has a Twin sister who has signed to run Track for The Florida Gators. The Kid who beat Quincy Wilson will likely just play football in college, but the Track Coach at Illinois will undoubtably try to get him to run Track as it is during the Football Off Season.
Don't be surprised. There are so many fast football players that do not run track and that includes the fastest kids on many high school campuses. Do I dare say many of them are ineligible, because of grades? Or they are just lazy? Or there coaches suck? But don't be surprised.
It’s obvious Quincy doesn’t have what it takes to be an elite professional athlete. Track fans expect consistent, winning performances. Not a one-off victory every few years. He should retire now and become a scholar. If he continues down this road he will be a worse version of Molly Seidel and in 20 years no one will even remember him. He has a better shot of becoming famous and somebody by picking a different career with less pressure like a zoologist.
Drafting makes a big difference in a 4x400. Just look at Coe in the 4x4 against the Americans back in the day when he tripped at the start and fell behind the American.

Why are we acting like this kid is a football player who was just convinced to run his first track meet and thrown into the 4x4?
He ran 45.76 in the open 400 last year; he is a defending state champ in the 400; he has track results from a range of events dating back to when he was a second grader.

Nobody said he was a bum. But he destroyed a guy who is advertised as the best thing ever in HS 400 and has a gold medal. Its crazy. mano a mano he took him out easy.

Actually I think the poster I replied to did strongly imply that there are a bunch of HS football players who could be track stars if they weren’t, in fact, bums.
This Tywan Cox kid is obviously massively talented: did I mention he ran 45.76 as a high school Jr.? At a meet in early April, he got the benefit of drafting and upset Wilson, who ran a subpar 46-low split. Considering Wilson ran 45.27 to win the open 400 by a full second over Cox, I wouldn’t make too much of this 4x4 result in regard to Wilson—my takeaway is that Cox’s ceiling would be Olympic medalist if he invested himself completely in track.

Thank I didn't need to look him up after seeing him run, I could tell he was one of the top high school young men in the U.S. If Quincy have a sub par performance and athletes like that young man have a good performance, it's no shocker that sometimes Quincy will LOSE.

The US has been cranking out several mid 45 guys/year for a while. They all can’t be medalists.. these kids aren’t stupid. Top 50 receiver makes you millions. number 50 400m guy is bagging groceries…
And while we like to harp on distance improvements, the run of insane sprinters we have had lately is also nuts…

The protagonist of the story is not allowed to lose, otherwise game over. Like Yama Yugi in YuGiOh.

Did you miss the part where Quincy blew him out of the water in the open 400?

Maybe, a lot of football coaches don’t want their players to miss Spring practice for track or baseball

I think you are getting your undies in a wad. Yes, the kid is good, he ran down Mr Best of All Time like he was standing still. Its news! At least to everyone in the track world except you.

So in your opinion, starting together at the same time in the relay means quincy cant run 400m? The fact that he beat him in the open 4 is that much more reason its news he ran him down like a dog and pulled away in the 4x. Not sure what your point is.
