We should probably focus on protecting current wildlife rather than bringing back species from thousands of years ago.

So these deadly extinct wolves are pretty much just like regular wolves. Okay

Oh, come on! Jurassic Park was just a movie. It was a fictionalized account of how dinosaurs would act in today's world. It was disgusting how they made the Tyrannosaurus Rex look like a brutal killer. I'm sure if they brought T-Rex and Velociraptors back from extinction they would be sweet, friendly, playful pets.

Key is that there would apparently be millions of differences in “base pairs” between the Gray Wolf genome and the Dire Wolf genome, and Colossal has edited just 20 that control superficial differences like color.

Large scary animals (dire wolf, T-Rex, etc.) pose no threat whatsoever. It is very easy for humans to kill any individual large animal or wipe out any population of large animals.

Anything larger than a rabbit will never be a significant threat. Smaller animals (mice, ants, mosquitos and especially pathogens) are much harder to deal with.

All dating methods are inherently flawed since they are based on evolutionary assumptions, and thus required fabricating vast amounts of time. Which is why they never bothered cracking open "dinosaur" bones expecting to find any marrow, until they finally did and suddenly 1/2 still had soft tissue present, because those bones aren't that old at all, mere thousands and "dinosaurs" aka "dragons" were with mere centuries ago (at least until Marco Polo's time).

Those scientists should try to create a male calico cat that is not sterile. Bet they can't do it.

What you miss is that a segment of the population (mostly who live in cities) will want to not only give them protect status but also reintroduce them to “the wild”. Also known as other people’s backyard. This is already a thing with wolves. Imagine a TRex.

The good news is that we are learning how to bring back species! But this is not because I care a ton about woolly mammoths or dire wolves. It is good news because we can use that same technology to bring back all the species that have died out in the previous (and next) 100 years.

p.s. Dinosaurs are also not really possible because we have much less (if any) viable DNA and not "host species" that could be used as a surrogate for a dinosaur. Dire wolves can be raised inside regular wolves. Mammoths can be raised in elephants. Where would you raise the T-rex?
