It’s only possible to think GS isn’t trash if you have no business or marketing background. This thing is a money pit made of some black hole level egos.

Nope. GST rocks. Have fun pleasuring yourself to you marketing degree.
They need to encourage the athletes to show boat and talk subtle trash on social media. Encourage taunting, and pre arranged skits like WWE. The average person would start to notice and pay attention. Personalities generate fan interest.

They have already done this. I'm sure it'll happen more and more once the athletes get comfortable in the process.
I enjoyed day 2. Thought that it was a different twist on racing. But I wouldn’t want the Diamond League to go away. You can like a great pizza and awesome Thai food and appreciate both while not expecting them to taste the same.

Good way of putting it. I enjoy both types of food/racing and wouldn’t want to be forced to only have one type all the time. Variety is the spice of life!
That was one of the most thrilling 1500s I've ever seen. Thank you Grand Slam.
Yes that one race was great but long term does it work? Will Hoppel and Arop want to needlessly be exposed in the 1500 4 times a year? Will we want to the hurdlers run the flat 100m time after time. Do we reallyy want to see a 400m guy win 100k for running 20.8?
If you aren't a good doubler - think Asafa Powell, Kishane Thompson - this is an awful league for you. If you are a pure 800 guy
Grand slam races are entertaining. Grand slam has no chance of being profitable.
Both can be true.
It's 100% this.
You have to laugh at this notion that because there was a really good race yesterday (and yes, that was a fantastic race) that we can lock in GST as a "success". Huh? That race had the Olympic 1500m podium in it, had 1,2 and 4 from the 800 in it - and people are shocked that an awesome race came from it? That didn't happen because the Grand Slam Track concept was good, it happened because they had the money to sign them to race. With that amount of talent with those accolades in the race yesterday, was there any outcome that wouldn't have been extremely noteworthy? If Hocker won. If Kerr won. Nuguse. Gourley with a huge upset. Any of those other 800 guys. Seriously, in what scenario was that race not going to tingle of the loins of people coming to Letsrun.com?
But this is your metric of success? Of course there are going to be great races. But there were 8 of them yesterday and what, 2 of them were really compelling? Opening day similar? Just remember that this league is claiming to be the best of the best - the absolute pinnacle of competition in the sport. Well alongside that great mens 1500m I also watched a womens 1500m with only 7 starters and one athlete running 4.20. In the womens 100m there were only 2 contracted "racers" in it.
I get we are all giddy over Emmanuel Wanyoni from Kenya winning the day 2 1500m - but again, this concept is supposed to be attracting a new audience and not catering to people that understand what happened yesterday in that 1500m. Also, when it comes round to the World Champs and those 3 plus Jakob are running sub 3.30 in the final fighting out the medals, this race on the 5th of April that it is dubious any of those big 3 really cared too much about, becomes simply a "what-if" footnote.
You got the essence of this right. Multiple things can be true at once. Grand Slam Track is going to have good (and some great) races but it's going to have far more crappy ones and we have seen this pattern emerging already. Is a handful of great races out of 24 across 3 days moving the needle for the sport, especially for the untapped audience they are after? Come to your own conclusions on that.
That’s all good and logical. I just think we need to give GST a chance. So many people said it would never work before it even started, and now people want to shovel dirt on it just because its start wasn’t perfect. Be patient and let it breathe!

Lol everyone suddenly has a marketing and business double degree with a specialization in track and field.
Get real. The product is good. It's literally the first weekend and people are so bent out of shape. Track fans are like lobsters in a bucket, pulling each other down for no reason.
First I will say, I think gst was cool to watch on day 2 and excited for races this evening.
But, as someone who is currently working towards a marketing degree there are a lot of things that I would say could be done to take this to a whole new level.
I noticed that even the graphics during the race were off. The long sprinters were racing the 200 but behind them the board read, 200m short sprints. Plenty of other things you could point out but definitely needs more attention to detail all around and could be great.

Absolutely this. I want them BOTH. This is great entertainment for early-season competition. Day 2 was solid.
