SEC and ACC coaches are cutting this week. Give me the season PRs for those unfortunate souls that got the ax. (2024-2025 season times only. If they ran great 2 years ago, it doesn't matter now.)
Had a low 10:20s steeplechaser reach out to me yesterday. She got let go.
That’s a NCAA East qualifier. Already had a 1:48-high guy (from indoor this season) get cut as well.
This portal is going to be insane. If you recruited all high schoolers, you pigeonholed yourself. Also, this is probably the worst year to be a high school senior b

Wow! Was she at a good power 4? 1:48 indoors cut is crazy as well. Are you at power 5, good mid major, or other?
Exceptional circumstances notwithstanding, I'd guess you'd have to run a bit under 14 to be sure of a spot at most places if you're a good cultural fit (and for certain schools doing well enough academically).

True story.
My kid (a senior) busted out a big PR during indoor and signed w/a mid-major. We breathed a sigh of relief that he was able to do so before the portal opened. It has been incredibly stressful the past 8-9 months.
Yeah, I get that. It's the case for everyone. He made the best decision for himself and feels good about his place there. I'm not going to get into details - I'm just agreeing with Former Sub about it being a hard year for seniors.

She runs for a team that was at NCAAs in XC two years ago and just missed this year. She was in their top 7 and was top 100 at NCAAs in 2023. Not a slouch at all. Both her and the guy 800m runner are international though.
I used to post on here more, but we are what I would call a good mid-major nowadays. We are an NCAA bubble team. Sometimes we make it, sometimes we don’t. Usually get individuals at the meet and develop people well. We are fully funded by the soon to be outdated 12.6/18.0 scholarship model and are about 20% international.
Even though a lot of people don’t like how foreign athletes enter the NCAA and take opportunities from domestic talent..they are also very expensive and are oftentimes first on the chopping block if they aren’t a STUD (talking all-american level) very quickly. Larger programs rather take the money and re-invest in another talent.
Bad for the athlete but good for programs who give them an opportunity.
Also, sub 14:00 is on the chopping block too. We almost picked up some of those good Colorado guys who got cut this summer. Some were about that fast. With impending roster limits, top teams are looking for 13:45 and faster for athletes to probably be considered “safe.” The 13:50-14:10 type guy is more in the territory of schools like us now. The whole NCAA landscape is shifting.

This year is def rough to be a senior. Feel for the kids for sure.
The current college seniors (HS class of 2021) was equally rough. No junior year spring track, no fall xc, and very limited spring senior track. Recruiting essentially shut down. Couldn’t visit. Few racing opportunities. It was rough. That class didn’t get the extra covid year either.
A number of 2025 HS grads I am familiar with are going the NAIA route. Kids who would normally walk-on at a P4. Honestly its probably better for them, as they will get to compete right away. The trickle down effect will be felt, though, at the lowest levels.
I've noticed mid-major teams that are distance focused loading up on kids that would have walked on to P4 teams more than NAIA commits. It's a hard thing for the top kids to not go D1 even if we adults can see the many reasons do to so. I don't doubt you're seeing it, I've just seen more midmajors.
I was under the impression that the cuts have already begun at P4 schools and kids were already being told. I'm guessing they are just quietly going into the portal and would never speak out out of fear of not being picked up by another team.

Pleaze keep posting. This kind of information is invaluable to the site. 1:48 cut is crazy work.
