I have been coming to this website daily for 20 years. I have only fallen for the April fool’s jokes a handful of times and in recent years, always sniffed them out.
But my God, that was hilarious today. Great articles and nice work, team. The first one was actually believable!! I realized it was a joke when it started getting ridiculous a few paragraphs in.
Yea, felt sorry for Grant.
Some pretty good stuff overall. I really liked the “Truth Is Stranger than Fiction” part.
They got me, I was a few minutes away from forwarding the article to friends when the light bulb finally turned on.
Been here since 2005. The lead story got me today, too--or at least the headline. Then I started reading it and by the end of the first paragraph or two, I was like, "Dang. They got me."
I'm sure the first one would have fooled me for a moment if I'd gone to the main page first instead of the forum page. A great combo of being not totally unbelievably ridiculous (like the dude who said Klecker ran 25:58), while yet being something that would be crushing and infuriating if it was true. Perfect joke.
The "two meters short" story is so good because it is actually something that happened.
In college we would race at Willamette University and after years of never having a great race there, we found out the track was slightly too long!
Luckily, the old track has been replaced...

What!? I did not know this. I raced an 800 at Willamette in the mid-2000's. If the track was, in fact, long then I could have broken 2:10. Yes, I know it's not a great time but for a Masters runner it is.
This was one of their best April Fools pages. It's especially easy to fall for it if you see it at 2 AM. You still think of it as March 31st, not April 1st!
The stranger than fiction section was probably even harder to believe than the joke articles... Sifan Hassan's triple, "2 Americans break WR in same day, but still lose to other Americans", the Kenyan government demanding an apology for rojo, etc.
Not gonna lie, I got all excited about the "no super shoes mile race" and feel like that needs to be an actual thing. Make Flats Great Again!!!!
