Serious question: for those with a spouse who travels for work, how do you keep jealousy and paranoia at bay?

I would advice practicing meditation every day for 5 years. It will be hard in a similar manner as for many people it's hard to do physical training consistently. But nothing valuable in life is easy.

I suggest you read the stats for infidelity in spouses that travel a lot. It is staggering unfortunately. Part of being on the road is looking for action on the side.

I'm assuming that you're a man because that's generally the demographic of this website. If you're a lesbian, I think you have less things to worry about. Lesbian relationships have less cheating that male-female couples. (& male-female couple have less cheating that male-male couples).

It's my understanding, usually women are more jealous (maybe I'm wrong!) of possibly losing their partner. However, if you are suspicious of your g.f., I think you might have something to worry about. It's like sometimes our subconscious protects us from things we don't want to see. DENIAL.

My two cents. I could be wrong. If you're suspicious she's cheating --> probably she is. They're won't be any way for you to find out - if it's happening when she's traveling. It's not like you could hack into her phone and read her texts. Even if you did, she could keep it on an encrypted app, like Whatsapp.

There's nothing you can do, you're going to have to learn to be more mindful at home, keep yourself busy, lean into stuff you've been putting aside, work out harder, take recovery, go hang out with your male friend you haven't seen a while. Go do things you've been putting off. Be a slightly better man when she gets home.

Do something equally nerve racking for her. Perform music at bars. Become a part time yoga instructor. Organize more events with your running club. Then you can both be jealous and paranoid. Then it's equal again. Then she'll eventually bring it up and you can talk it out. Why women aren't aware of these things when they would feel the same way is a mystery.

I don't like this advice, it's bad. It sounds like these are your insecurities, not that she's cheating. Plenty of jobs require travel. Not everyone is cheating here and there.

if you don't feel secure in the relationship, first get to the bottom of why you feel she would look elsewhere. Is it your own anxiety? is something going on in the relationship to make you feel that way? You should be able to be away from each other without either of you feeling this way. She should be able to focus on work and having good platonic fun with her friends/co-workers while gone without having to worry about you feeling jealous.

I think it's good to start there and work your way up.
