Is he the first HSer to do it on his home track with a home crowd?
Think Ryun did when he ran 3:58 at the Kansas state meet (or did something very similar). It was definitely in Wichita but not 100% sure it was held at his high school. Cinder too.

Was not on his home track (East), but was still in Wichita at the state championships. It was the first ever sub 4 in a high school only competition. Crazy to think about that happening in 1965 with Adidas spikes with no heel. Incidentally, the wr at that time was 3:54 by Snell (Jazy broke it later that summer).

Didn't Gary Martin do it when he ran 3:57? Maybe it was at a league meet so not at his school idr. Other than him and Ryun no one else comes to mind.

Yes, Martin's time was from his league meet.
Latham is now the 21st fastest boy on the US A-T HS list . . . but pretty sure he lands top-10 in a hs-only race.
Following article covering Martin's race from May 2022 provides lots of statistical data current to that date:
Heres the link if you are able to watch. His race starts with about 13 minutes remaining in the live stream. The only extra note I have to add about the impressiveness beyond it being a solo effort is that the pollen exploded here in Georgia this week. Those that live in the South know there was a lot of extra stuff he was breathing through!
