Langon and Martin also 3:33. Looks like they had pace lights. Weather was also really nice in Raleigh. Technically a collegiate record?
CR 1500 is held by like 6 different people depending on what you count. Need someone to drop a 3:29 during the season soon so we can put this discussion to rest.
Yes, that's an NCAA record (the way I see it, at least). I use Track & Field News rules, which means the performance has to be prior to or including NCAAs (and not while they're redshirting).
Previous fastest outdoor 1500 was Alabama's Eliud Kipsang's 3:33.74 from 2022. Then this winter, Ethan Strand and Gary Martin ran 3:33.41 indoors. Now Liam Murphy (3:33.02) and Marco Langon (3:33.38) have both surpassed them.

Murphy and Langon beat Gary Martin at 1500?!? This is setting up to be one of the craziest outdoor NCAAs in a long time! The 1500 and 5k talent is insane right now.

Murphy missed the world standard by 0.02…(Martin already has it).
how crazy is it that 3 college kids run 3:33 at the end of March (and that doesn’t include the collegiate record holder in the indoor mile)

Or that two guys who just finished 11th and 4th in the 5k/3k (Murphy) and 6th and 7th in the 5k/3k (Langon) are now the two fastest in NCAA history in the 1500?

The only unfortunate thing was that I think some guys might opt out of the 1500 and only do the 5k. I hope Strand and Martin both do the 1500. I'm not sure about Murphy and Langon doing the 1500. But I'm holding out hope. Just imagine Strand, Murphy, Martin, Teffra, Green, Sahlman, and Langon lining up. 5 sub 3:34 guys and 4 NCAA champions. And then no doubt some guy I forgot to mention would come out and upset them all!

Realized Nathan Green also went sub 3:34 at the trials
The 1500 and 5k this year are going to be absolute bloodbaths. Spare a thought for Cooper Teare! He might have to book a last minute flight to Orange County and hop in The Ten this weekend or start practicing his barriers and water jumps.
Been said a million times but it's still staggering how deep the American 1500 field is right now. 3 guys running 3:33 in March... wow
Can't help but wonder how these NCAA guys are gonna look come USATF Outdoor Champs in August— it'll have been a LONG season by then but maybe the extra month off after NCAA champs should help?
I shouldn't be surprised as they clearly wanted to run fast if they had pacing lights, but I am shocked they ran this fast at the Raleigh Relays. Maybe the goal was the Worlds standard?
Figured the entire group would be resting a bit after indoors and then building back up for outdoors. It is now possible to just be like Jakob and run fast year round? Thought he was the exception to the rule:)

I'd guess they'd be wiped and look as bad as Sahlman did in 2024. You can't hold a peak for 6-8 weeks.
